Out of curiosity, would the new ability to run homebrew on the Nintendo Wii be able to bring Wii owners DVD playback on their consoles?

Here is a thread discussing dvd software released a little while back. It does not exactly turn the wii into a dvd player but its a start.

I doubt it seeing that they already had that opportunity and chose not to do so. I guess they felt it wasnt necessary because now everything that can connect to a tv plays dvds anyway.
