odd issue with LG GSA-4040B

the drive is installed as the master drive under windows XP.

while empty it is displayed as a DVD RAM drive, as soon as I put a blank disc in it displays as a cd drive.

It will not allow me to burn to a dvd, and all burning software detects the disc as a cd rather than a dvd.

I've removed the hardware and re-installed it several times.
