Ring of death ?

I have the ring of death, my console fan still turns on and the disk tray still opens and closes. Is this the ring of death caused by faulty soldering joints? Or could it be some other hardware problem?

Thats not nessesarily true, I had a faulty power source before which causes the same lights to come on. I beleive that pattern of lights only indicates a general hadware fault. Thats why im tring to find out if a console that has the "offical" ring of death is still capable of opening the tray and having the cooling fan come on.

Why ask a ? if your gona tell people there wrong when they answer it? Faulty power source wouldnt cause 3 rings of death to come on. The placment of the lights is to give out a error coding so people know excatly whats wrong with there system. As for your tray and fan yes they will still come on and open if you have RROD

Wodger read your own link there bud. The power cable isnt the reason for RROD. It tells you that it should be green even with RROD not red.Doesnt say if your power cable light is red you have RROD. No where in that link does it say that a power cable will cause hardware failure, and or RROD dont try to sound smart and throw up BullSh*t links. Thanks

My xbox 360 is over a year old & it can also play backups (if you know what I mean)
Just started playing a game & after about 10 minutes (RROD) came on,
3 famous red ring light.
Power supply seems to be o.k as the small light does turn green but at the same time 3 red light come on around the power switch.
I've red some posts & it seems many people have had this issue, how can I fix this & is it do it yourself or something very technical.

Call 1-800-4-myxbox beacuse its dead. You could try and fix it yourself but you will end up needing to open and do a bunch of crap. If you have a warranty then just send it in if not id advise you search the web for someone in your area to help fix it

I think it was just a total misunderstanding with what he read in that link and what causes the RROD. No big deal.
You have the right attitude though. You gave good answers.

Creaky, I think the mods need to do something about people like |CreepyLoser|, who pick fights with people and try to get them banned. He then will hide behind his boyfriend and cry on the board. This behavior is totally inappropriate.

Fine, Creaky. All I'm saying is-I just wish the mods would be more proactive in banning people who instigate fights on here. I just mind my own business and then get trolls like |CreepyLoser|, who pick fights to try to get people banned. He obviously doesn't have much a life if he does that all day on here. I did more search/reading after I posted my question.
I tried towel trick (I'm sure you know which one it is)
I played coupel of hours last night & over 3 hours alreay this morning, so far so good. No sign of rrod yet.....
Some say this is temp. fix. If it's temp fix do you know how long it would give me or it varies?
What's about this stupid towel trick that gets rid of the rrod?
