Could someone please explain to me why they are saying it is because of the lens being dirty that SSBB won't load all of the way. I have two Wiis one of the reads the SSBB disc just fine and I got the Wii around launch day, so I know it has nothing to do with when the Wii was manufactured. The other Wii will not read the disc and I got it around last June. i have taken it apart and cleaned the lens myself, to where it is sparkling clean, and it still does not read the freakin disc. This whole, "Not read the disc because the lens is dirty" crap is not true. There is a defect of some sort. Can anyone help me to figure it out?

Do not close this, because it does not really apply to SSBB, but more so to any future Dual Layer discs. Plus I am not asking for help with SSBB but for help figuring out what it up with the dirty lens. Besides, have you seen the SSBB thread? It is way overcrowed and needs to be broken up some. Anyone looking for solutions to any problems in that thread will have to spend days reading all of the pages upon pages of threads, come on, you know that thread is to big to even be useful. I spent hours looking for information on backing up a US version of SSBB and seeing if it would play on a US Wii with Wiikey installed and did not find the answer, so I just prayed for the best and went with it. Is that really what you want your members and readers to do just because the thread is so big that it is overwhelming?

A Mod will close this thread if they want weather you tell them not to or not.

The retail SSBB disc will not work with Wii systems that have a Wiikey installed in it.

It has nothing to do with Nintendo it is a bug in the Wiikey itself.

In order to play the retail on the Wii the Wiikey needs to be disabled. So install a switch or use the corrupt trick to disable it.

This is all covered in the SSBB thread.

If it is a backup your having issues with then more then likley it is a burn/media issue.

Please look at it from the other side, there are users on here (myself NOT included) that make multiple informative posts, and they have to do it over and over because people do not want to read the threads...

On top of that it really does keep the forum less cluttered to have all the information in one place. The thread itself is a little bit of a mess, but thats typically because people who don't read the damn thread post replies in it asking for 'how do i...' all the time....

Captianmo, life is rough...

Most of the important information found throughout this thread has been edited into the very first post on the very first page.

If your thread doesn't have anything to do w/ Brawl then why put it in the title?

And yes the issue of the dirty lens bit has been addressed on the Brawl thread.

There I disagree - too many people posting success after reading the thread or at least parts of it.

Since you say this isn't about Brawl - title edited and left open for now.

In my original post at the very top I did not say that I was trying to play SSBB on a modded Wii. To me, this post is about the laser lens not reading dual layer discs, not SSBB. It is unfortunate that SSBB is the only DL game out for the Wii, because otherwise I could have just said Dual Layer games. As we all know if I had said Dual layer games do not read, I would have had 20 people telling me that SSBB is the only dual layer game out, so to prevent a bunch of people telling me something I already know I included the title of SSBB. I am wanting to figure out how to properly fix the lens, I could care less about making SSBB run, but rather making Dual Layer disc run. As I am sure everyone knows by now SSBB is not going to be the only DL game that comes out, and I do not know about everyone else but I do not want to be one of those people who cannot play their games do to a defect in the Wii, so I want to start truely solving the problem now rather than later. I can tell you that I have cleaned the crap out of the lens and it does not help, I have tried the being patient with pressing A method and it does not work, I have tried looking for a POT screw to adjust but there is not one that I can find. Can anyone one else help to break down the list of trails and errors when trying to fix the laser lens? On a side note, I am not saying that the SSBB forum does not help people, obviously it has, all I am saying is that not every answer to every question is in there, and to waste hours of reading information that does not pertain to the problem does not assist in fixing the problem it only makes it more of a problem to figure out.

Who said your issue had to only be a lens issue?

You might be cleaning the crap out of it but if the issue is caused by something else then cleaning the lens isn't going to do squat.

If you want real help then you should give us more information on the Wii that is having the issue.

Are you playing the retail version of the game?

Is it a backup version?

Do you have a Modchip installed?

If so what modchip does it have installed in it?

But allot of the issues that users have had are not because of the Wii. There is allot of other issues this could be and jumping straight to the Wii being faulty if it isn't will not solve the issue.

True - there are a lot of different issues it could be - this is just another possibility to add to them.

It is a retail version of Brawl. The Wii is not modded, and has 3.2u firmware on it. Whats funny about this is that I do have a modded Wii with a Wiikey in it with 1.9g firmware, and the Wii has 3.2u firmware on it and it plays my backup copy just fine. Side note, everything I have is all USA, I do not mix regions ever, not worth the risk. I have just ordered a replacement laser for the Wii having problems and it will be interesting to see if it fixes it or not. If it does work, then it will be a solution to anyone that has a modded Wii that can't read DL discs, and the laser is only $50.00 US dollars.

@Captianmo
Did you contact Nintendo? They're offering a free and 'expedited repair process' for problems playing Brawl.

No, I do not want to send it off for repair. I will learn nothing from doing that. I am one of those people that just has to figure things out, and if I send it in thats like saying I can't fix it. I got a lot of people that I know who bring me their broken game systems and other electronics to see if I can fix them, and 9 out of 10 times I can, because I don't quit until I find an answer as to why it is not working. Plus, I am one of those people who stop in the pawn shop every couple days to see if there is anything worth my time to buy and fix. I have gotten a bunch of broken nintendo ds's and fixed them plus a few xbox 360's too. I just like fixing things :).
