Getting into Mode B with Hitachi 79 Using Slax?

I saw a video on youtube a few nights ago with a dude getting his Hitachi 79 into mode B without the use of the passkey. All he used was Slax apparently. I am going to provide the link, and maybe someone can see the validity of this? Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8alx2paaKg

If this is indeed possible, maybe this will help with the modding process of the Hitachi 79? It'd be awesome for me considering I got stuck with one... if it is indeed possible, is there any other tools to be used after getting it in Mode B?

It sort of works. You can get it into mode b, but you still can't read or write to the firmware. So you'll still need the Passkey.

Crappy deal... thx though. Another question... any word on a way to update the firmware without the Passkey? I had a dude look at my 360, and he's involved in the scene as well... back in January, he said they were going to develop a method "soon"... so does anyone know when "soon" will be?
