i recently upgraded my psp with the custom firmware of 3.90 M33. I found out once i did the upgrade that custom themes can be set as backgrounds to replace the boring plain backgrounds. I decided to change this with another custom background from console spot and followed a tutorial on youtube on how to flash it on to the psp aswell. I followed the process and when i went into the recovery mode of my psp and changed the flash to store the theme files on it, it just froze when i pressed back to get to the main psp loading screen. From then on when i try to switch the psp on the screen remains black which i think shows its bricked and switches off after 10-15 seconds. Is there a way of unbricking this problem, please help.

1. Yes the pandora and magic memory stick can be used to unbrick the PSP

2. The firmware on the PSP may OR may not remain the same. It all depends on your magic memory stick. What was the first firmware you installed on your PSP using the magic memory stick? This is going to be the firmware that will be installed once you unbricked your PSP.

My Understanding is that you will need to flash firmware to it, if you use Dvc 3 or 4 then you get 3.71 or 3.80.

Can you access recovery mode? if so,(you have a semi-brick) it might be possible to use a recovery folder via the recovery menu back to 1.50

Unless your have a nand back up which you can flash back, i suspect not though

PsP#1 : 2.01>3.71M33-4>3.80 M33-5
PsP#2 (Slim) : 3.80>3.90M33-2 All hail the UPMS Stck
If you need a UPMS Stick go here and then go here :-) *As recommended by January39

Are you asking whether the firmware will change if you use a 512MB card? It doesn't depend on the size of the memory stick.. it depends on what software you use to create the Magic Memory Stick.

When you first flashed your PSP what was the firmware that was installed? 3.71 M33? Or 3.80 M33? The first firmware that was flashed to your PSP will be the firmware you will flash now IF you use the same magic memory stick.

If you create a NEW magic memory stick using the same software on your computer the firmware will be the same as what you FIRST installed on your PSP.

If you create a NEW magic memory stick using different software on your computer, the firmware will be different to the first firmware installed on your PSP.

I hope this is clear.

The firmware i had when i flashed the psp before it was bricked was at 3.90 M33. I havent yet made a magic memory stick on my 512mb card but if i do would it change the firmware when i use the pandora battery and the magic memory stick when i create it from 3.90 M33.

By the way thanks for your help so far and i do understand what you are trying to get at, im just an amatuer at this psp firmware and stuff.
