Xbox360 Played through LCD Monitor

I would like to connect my Xbox360 to a 19" Lcd monitor which i am also using as a PC monitor. I found that when it was a PS2 console that was put through the monitor the picture quality was awful that was probably because i was using the RCA lead connection.
I have read that the quality would be considerably better if i connected the Xbox through a VGA lead instead. Now i take it a VGA lead is the lead which you would commonly attach your PC to monitor with. If this is indeed the connection i am lost as to how you connect both PC and Xbox to the monitor how do you do this? I mean the PC is already using that port on my LCD monitor and there is not another VGA socket supplied. So how do i go about linking my Xbox 360 up to the monitor without having to disconnect the PC everytime i want to use the console. Is it possible to purchase a splitter which would allow the console and the PC to be connected at the same time?
Obviously this is not a HD screen but a normal LCD screen. Does anybody know what the quality is going to be like by using the VGA connection opposed to the scart, or RCA, or Svideo connection.
I have been using a CRT Sony widescreen 28" but the problem is that the televison is very big as it is the old type of TV which has the very wide back and i am running out of room everything is stacked up on everything and i would like to get this area tidy by using one screen only for all. Obviously the sort of monitor i have allows me to switch from TV to PC any help please.

You need a VGA switch,or do what I do in just switch it manually kind of a pain but it works,And you should get a great pic depending what your monitor is capable of,I have a HI def monitor and get a Great pic prob as good as my HI def tv.Also my monitor disconnects at the back of monitor,but if your's don't it come's with a adaptor in the kit that is Double sided Female.

Using the vga cable works perfect with the 360. Unless you can get a monitor with dual inputs, then your only other option is to plug/unplug your pc.

A kvm might work, but I couldn't give you a definate yes or no.

Thank you for the help really appreciated i mean what better forum to go to when ever i need help. Thankyou.
I purchased from Ebay SVGA VGA Monitor Switch Box Splitter 2 Way this enables me then to plug the PC into one side and the Xbox in the other and when i want to use either i just turn the switch and then hey presto its cracked.I am hoping that the quality is going to be good i mean by what i have so far read it seems the quality is supposed to be very good.
So all i have to wait for to try this is the VGA cable from the Xbox and the splitter box and then i might be able to get this tip of a room sorted out i will keep in touch when this is up and running and will comment on what i thought of the quality. I had a chance today to buy a HD monitor which has Freeview and a dvd player built in and you can use this as a PC monitor too but i don't need the freeview or the DVD as it wont be multi region i have seen another HD 22" for £166.00 from Tesco so if this monitor is crap i might invest in a HD version but seeing as finances are tight at the moment i might have to hang on.
