im about to get a wii and want it modded so i can play regional imports as whenever i get family members going to america, they know to get me a video game over anything else :D

a few Qs though about mod chips and what-not.

whenever people talk about doing a "15% trick" to avoid having to update and getting dual channels, why can i not update it through the internet update as ive heard that all of the chips with with the new firmware???

also, would i have to do a "RegionFrii" on all games if i backup even if my mod-chip supports region free?

also is "BrickBlocker" just to remove an update out of an image, but why is that needed if its safe to upgrade?

last Q, i promise :D, ive seen lately all these ISO's being "Scrubbed". what does that mean and why would ISO's have to be re-signed?

Thanks.

To you want to play backups too? Because if it is just to play imports you can just get the new freeloader.

Working down your list of questions:

The 15% trick is for smash bros. Theres an update on the disk that is not part of any update available online. So even if you already have 3.2E (I'm guessing you're a pal user since you say you have people going to the US) brawl will run an update and give you duplicate channels. Since the brawl update is a very small one though it wont brick the wii, it'll just dupe the channels. Which dosent hurt anything.

Regionfrii is unneeded if you have region free turned on on the modchip as all it does is change the iso to look like one from a different region.

Brickblocker removes the update from a game, to prevent bricking (as the name implies) It's needed becasue if you were to run a US copy of metroid prime 3 (which requires firmware 3.0 to run) on your wii with firmware 3.2E metroid would check for 3.0U or later, not see it because its looking for a U firmware, and attempt to install it, bricking the wii. Run brickblocker on that and it will skip that check and run just fine, since you already have a later firmware, even if its from a different region it'll work.

Scrubbed isos have had the 'junk' data removed from them. Many wii games are actually only a couple hundred MB but padded out to 4.3 gigs to fill up the whole disk. Scrubbed isos have had that junk data replaced with different junk data in a different format that compresses well. Its to make it easier for filesharers to download and people who want to store isos on their harddrives. When you extract them from the rar they're the same size as a regular wii game and burn normally. Since its all junk data anyway the wii cant tell the difference.

im not too keen on freeloader as ive heard nintendo can probably block it with a FW update.

in regards to the smash bros update that Penguin98 was talking about, does that mean that Brawl will always try to update even if you have a newer version???

what is the way around having to update so that i wouldnt get duplicate channels?

Thanks.

Brawl will always try to update even if you have the latest 3.2 Firmware. Its update only contains a minor update that allows brawl to be played. If the disc in question is the same region as your wii (Brawl Ntsc-U on a Ntsc-U wii), Then you dont have anything to worry about and update as normal.

I personaly used the 15% trick and had no problems.
