Greetings! :)
I am TOTALLY confused on trying to figure out how to play some of these ISO's that I've downloaded. With my DS, I just bought the R4, some MicroSD Chips and was set.
Now, I have a PSP (Slim) with 3.90 Firmware (it was the 'Daxter' set if that makes a difference) and everything I'm reading says that I need to either have a PSP Phat or already have the Firmware Modded before upgrading to the latest versions.
WHAT do I need to do (step-by-step) to setup my PSP with what I need to be able to play ISO's (or any other game I can download - I'm a member of PSP Blender).
I'm 41, a returning student and have a full time job so my brain is kinda 'full' right now on trying to figure all this new stuff out.
Am I just screwed or can I partake in the fun?
Thanks! :)

Most importantly you need to get your hands on a pandoras battery. Then you can follow thisguide.

Is there a particular source? I've read some stuff about fake batteries being out there.

lol - you're never too old elric1966 :)
I know the feeling on the fired brain syndrome - same boat here - school & work.
Follow the guide rickem linked too - it's step by step and easy to follow.
For a pandora's battery I'd suggest buying a Datel Tool Battery - you can get one from codejunkies.com or consoleshop.com.
BTW pspblender is a scam - they just link you to other sites.
Try pspiso.com.

I saw they have them on Divineo as well (that's where I got my R4's) - but they're out of stock and I'd like to find someone in the states to cut down on the shipping. I'll check the 2 you listed and also the other site.
Thanks! :)

Okie Dokie - The Battery Tool has been ordered and ahould be here Saturday/Monday. I also downloaded the Universal Unbricker 'Pack' - is there ANYTHING else I need to find/download to accomplish what I'm trying to do (besides find ISO's of what I'm wanting?)
Thanks! :)

Oh - and I forgot to ask, I'm ONLY supposed to use the Battery Tool for the purposes of changing the firmware right? Once I complete this task, I go back to using the Battery that came with the PSP?

Yes the Datel Tool Battery is a service battery only used to get custom firmware on the psp by putting the psp in service mode.
When you get the tool battery - charge it with your psp. Needs to be charged to at least 80%.
Yes - once you complete 'the task' - you would put back in the regular battery.
Nothing really to do now but what for the tool battery. Then proceed on to custom firmware :)

Followed the tutorial and went ahead and created the Magic Stick so it's ready when the Battery gets here. I may go ahead and buy a 512M Card and use that since it seems to be a waste of using a 1G and have so much space left over.
Is there ANY reason I would NOT want to go ahead and install the 390M33-2 Update and have my PSP using the newest?
What about this 'Time Machine' thingy I've read about?
Thanks! :)

You can go straight to 3.90 m33 then go to 3.90 m33-2.
There's a 3.90 PBP file that comes w/ 3.90 m33 that is used to then upgrade to 3.90 m33-2.
But in the recent custom firmware you can now use the network update option to update the custom firmware - it's set by default now. Very easy :)
So go to 3.90 m33 then use the network update or just run the installer.
I can't help on Time Machine - I have yet to use it or download it.

I understand - but I'm hoping that (IF) it does, the Universal Unbricker will fix that.

At that point, will I need to use the Datel Battery to do the updates or will the regular battery work?

The chances of bricking your psp doing this aren't that great.
Follow the guide and you'll be set.
One heads up - if you have a custom installed switch it back to the default one. But I think the new installers give you a warning now and won't let you upgrade until the theme is on the default.
Check out this link as an fyi in preparation for putting the games on the psp - link
And no problemo on the help :)

Regular battery will work. The datel tool battery has done it's job once the custom firmware is installed. It's no longer needed. Well if you ever brick it or want to mod a friends/family members psp.
edit to add: @isonewbi - no need to apologize - all help (worthwhile that is :)) is always welcome here.

UPDATE!
OK - received my Datel Battery and charged it up. Now, when I pop the battery into the PSP, the green power light comes on - that means it's in service mode right? Even if the screen stays black?
I've tried inserting the MagicMS into the unit after inserting the battery and I've tried inserting the battery after inserting the stick but the light never flashes to let me know that it's reading the memory stick. If I check the stick (either using the regular battery or via USB mode), it looks fine.
Now I should point out that when I followed the guide given at the beginning of the thread, the installation never showed me the information in the PSP MS IPL Installer Box (the one asking about the Write ABS Sector...).
Did I miss something?
Thanks! :)
