Hi, I have just been playng a game and my PS3 just turned itself off! then the red power led kept on flashing. A quick press of the power button made it beep and then remain static. When I tried to turn it back on, it beeped at me again, the red power led flashes yellow a couple of times and then goes back to red and the ps3 will not turn on at all! *grief. I contacted Sony and they are sending me a refurbished 60Gb model as a replacement, on Tueseday 25/030/08! a whole week without it, I just bought reatchet & clank also, and the kids are on holiday from school! I have looked in the forums and a PS3 will turn itself off for overheating, but will turn back on later. And all reports seem to say that the yellow led indicates a hardware fault, just like, dare I say it, the red ring of death on the XBox. If anyone else has experienced this, or knows anything about then please reply to this post, I am in shock and have got the narc! Maybe anyone else who has suffered this fate can post and we can all greive together. Beware! The yellow LED of Despair!

Actually the chances of the yellow light showing up (meaning hardware failure, usually the HDD) is around .02%

thats all you could do and its worth a try for your circumstances. please reply if it worked or not

Id Take a good working refurbished 60gb PS3 over the other versions any day. I had to take mine back becuz the blueray lens burnt out and wouldnt read blueray disks anymore. I now have the 40gb version and its an inconvenience to have to use two consoles

Well the 40gb model uses new technology which allows it to run cooler so in that sense it is more reliable.

Im on my 3rd 60gb PS3 at the minute. First I had my laser burn out, then I had a dodgey hard drive thing, couldnt play DMC4, install any demos and always locking up. Ive had no problems with the one so far, touchwood. 3rd time lucky eh?

My sisters got a 40gb one and her laser burnt out after a few weeks, same as mine. We've always been a bad luck family :( My dog even has epilepsy.

Ive gotta say, sony are really good about replacing it, you dont loose out if your 60 breaks, they dont give you a 40, they have to give you a 60gb, which is what I was worried about at first.
Also both times they came the next morning, dropped a replacement off and took the broke one. Cant get any better, well apart from if it didnt brake the first time.
