I've seen a lot of people using both speeds and not sure which would should I really use?

basically its whether or not you want to hear a little bit of noise or have fast loading times. i have mine at 12x and doesnt sound any different from my non-flashed 360.

I havent flashed mine yet but I know that 12x is good if the noise doesnt bother you.And some people told me that if you will use 12x make sure you wont use any cheap media discs just incase.If I flashed mine 12x would be the best.You will get faster load times,but the bad thing is a little louder than 8x.Stick with 12x bud.

Yah you told me that in the thread I made.If I ever flash my 360 I will set it to 12x.The noise doesnt bother me and I will also install the WhisperMax fan in there too.I dont really care now because my dvd drive might be v79.and I might not even bother flashing it.Just giving my opinion.Since Ive had no experience with how drive speeds are,you should take modders' opinions for it.I just think 12x wood work fine.

Does it really help to read them better?

Regardless if it does...you are hurting your laser eye in the long run.

With that said, I set mine at 8x because it does seem quieter to me. Ruined a laser eye using cheap discs at that speed too. ;p
