First off, I know NOTHING about modding or soldering. The highest technical thing I can accomplish is building a computer. I bought the Wii to play back ups, so therefore I want it modded. What is the easiest and best modding solution? Please, tell me everything I need to know to get started...Thanks :D

Modchips to investigate - mainly, ARGON, INFECTUS2, WASABI, D2Pro
There are loads of threads in this section that myself and others have been replying to regarding these chips frequently and as recently as today.
Read as many of those as possible as well as some info in the stickies and then ask any specific questions.
Everything you need to know to get started ain't gonna get typed up here m8 - it's way too much.
If you know nothing and wanna cut to the chase then get the new INFECTUS 2 with programmer and get someone to fit it for you. Available from 25th of this month.

The wii-clip is a new idea and not much is known as to it's stability with regards to maintaining good contact - it's got a d2c pro in it which will do the job (actually I believe that chip is a copy of the D2CKey if I remember correctly - a clone and not an original - not 100% sure) and not necessarily as future proof as Infectus or Argon - that's not to say it won't do as it should for the time you have it - who knows? ...but ppl thought that about other chips as well and some are starting to look as though they may need replacing soon. If it is a D2CKey copy then it won't be updateable cos the D2CKey isn't either. I'd not have it myself.
The wii-clip and all these chips are discussed throughout these threads and tbh I'm just typing stuff that's been said before.
Edit - Yeah it's a copy of the D2CKey. Forget it I say.

wii-clip supports more than that chip so if it's any good then soon enough there should be options for others in a pre soldered bundle.

You can find plenty of tips about general soldering of modchips and what's needed
http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php?pag...pSolderingGuide
....and there might be some stuff on youtube. The main thing is to practice a lot on some old circuit board to get the hang. When you are certain you can do it without messing up and also sure of how the chip fits then off you go. You can always post Qs if you run into a snag but if you're confident enough and patient you should be fine. Any doubt - don't do it yourself cos the angst of trying to fix it might screw your brain lol.

I am REALLY leaning towards this:
http://techsick.com/shop/index.php?main_...&products_id=42
I don't know how to solder and am afraid of messing things up. And I think soldering isn't reversible. I am just afraid that Nintendo will bring out an update to pwn the D2CKey...Then all my money will be gone. But the WiiClip and DC2CKey looks so attractive...

It's only attractive because it's there and you can order it now - Pick the chip you really want and wait for the clip combination to be released... In the end it's your money m8 and I know sometimes it burns a hole in one's pocket :)

If you aren't comfortable using an Iron, advise other forum members where you are located and perhaps they can advise on where you can take your Wii to have it professionally modified.
Sometimes its worth the piece of mind. I watched a workmate destroy the ribbon wafer that came with the D2C modchip... and we have experience in electonics.
I laughed so hard... didn't help him though.

I don't really want it professionally installed. I like the feeling of accomplishing things I thought that were too hard, like when I built my first computer for example. I though it was too hard, but in the end it was easy as pie. Now I know soldering isn't the same thing, but I guess I am either going to get the Wii Clip, or get the Argon/Wasabi and mod it myself. Any good instructional videos on wiring the Argon/Wasabi? The biggest thing I am afraid of is soldering the wire to the little pin things inder the black chip...I hope you understand. Thanks guys :)

Good for you. Maybe you should head down to Tandy or (Jaycar in Aus) and pick yourself up some veroboard (waferboard), a few 10 cent resisters/capacitors and some solder.
Get a decent soldering iron, remember if you dont get a fine tip you can file it to a point, and practice soldering some of these components into the board and running wires between them.
Might be worth the $$$ to practice.
Google Wasabi and it shows how to place the modchip and solder it in. There are bound to be information out there as each chip comes on the market.
I would wait for the infectus2 myself.

Anyone in the States help wooz101 out here.
Something like DSE, Jaycar, Tandy or Radio Parts.
Read about Veroboard here and here. The best stuff to practice on if you haven't soldered before.
The above electronics shops also sell soldering irons, solder, flux and wick as required. I would expect American equivalents to do the same.
Basic soldering guides can be found online, but nothing beats practice. More information here, here, and here
Remember to use the right temperature on your solder, keep it wet when applying without overheating. It should be shinny when bonded between the pad and component. If it is dull its a dry joint and will break. Do not over use the solder. Non corrosive flux always comes in handy wetting the joint and allowing solder to flow.
All the best.
The Digital Bear.

IMHO, all you people who want to make modding your Wii your first soldering project are just crazy.
I have ability and training to do it yet I wasn't going to do it myself once I realized I had a "cut pins Wii".
You spent $250+ on your Wii, another $25-45 on your Modchip, and you want to shortcut by doing it yourself???
I found an experienced installer on Craigslist, and paid him to do it. No muss, no fuss, done in 2 hours. It's been working like a charm ever since.
Save yourself some time and headache.
I will probably do my next one myself since I have one that's working as a reference.
