Hi
Just received a Starview PVR in the post this evening and have been trying to set up all night. Followed a number of the suggestions on various posts already but with no luck.

Problem is that no channels are found when I do an auto scan on NTL. Scanned all other service as well just in case. Checked the cable single and it is working fine. The Box came with the firmware loaded at version 4.5000. Cable in is attached to the Cable In point that is top right side of the bank of four. Cable to TV is from Antenna out on the left of the back of the box.

Anyone any suggestions? Does anyone know if there are issues connnecting to a standard analogue service on NTL?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

First , you need digital TV available in your area to get channels installed as standard analogue wont work.

If you go to Menu/Installation you should have 4 options.
Cable Network, Auto Scan, Manual Scan, and Advanced Scan.
If you don't have 4 options you have wrong software installed.
If you do have the 4 options when you have Cable Network highlighted in Yellow use the right arrow button on your remote to scroll through to your Provider, then Autoscan.

Make sure your cable supply lead is in the correct socket at the back as there are 6 and its easy to get in the wrong one and don't forget to fit a short link cable between tuners to get both tuners working.

Incoming cable goes in to Cable 1 Input (top right of the four sockets that are together. The loop cable goes between Cable loop 1 output (top Left) and Cable 2 input (Bottom right)

Thanks Celtic71
I think I have all that covered but the auto scan doesn't find any channels. The box came preflashed with the software. I read on some posts about the codes for providors. Is it possible the codes that the box came with are incorrect for N*L Ireland? I tried changing the codes and rescanning is there anything else I might need to do after changing codes and where can I get the correct codes?
Thanks again.

Celtic71,
Just realised I don't have 4th option Advanced scan. Does this mean that I have the wrong software even though the box came preflashed?
Thanks.

Soounds like the wrong firmware is installed

You can go here and download the latest one

You will also need the PVR Loader here

You will need a NULL MODEM CABLE to update your b0x

Managed to get it working after trying it in a friends house. Not 100% sure why, it could have been a combination of things. Thanks for the guidance and replys much appreciated.

It's working for me now but I did have a lot of problems in the first place. I followed some of the very helpful posts on this site about the latest codes. I also brought the box to a friends house were the channels tuned in. The only diffence was that they have a more modern ntl connection box it's about twice the size of my connection boxes. Once I brought it home again it worked. Not sure if this is of any help to you.

Iwantabox.com. About 140. Recording works fine but the interface is primative. A poor relation of Sky+
