My old 4:3 LCD monitor broke recently, so I picked up a new one. Its LG 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (L226WA). Can be seen here: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddet...266&catid=25074
Anyway, this is my first wide-screen monitor. And this one has HDMI and component input, thats why I picked it up. But after testing it with PS2, I found out that there is no audio input, so theres no sound for ps2, since there is only green, blue, red, input, but no AV input, red, white input for sound. However, good thing I have a TV box component receiver, so I can hook the component cable to the monitor and sound cable to the receiver, which worked flawlessly(PS2 component has 5 line, 2 red, 1 green, 1blue, 1 white).
But I have the same question for PS3, it has HDMI, but it doesnt have an audio input (except for an audio input for speaker, which doesnt seem to work for PS2 and component AV cable..). I don't own a PS3 right now, but I plan on getting one in the future. If I hook up PS3 to this monitor through HDMI, will there be any sound? Or will there be no sound like PS2? Because my TV box receiver doesnt support HDMI, so it won't work with PS3... If theres no sound through HDMI, I might have to return it and pick up another one.. Plz help me.
Also another question, does this monitor support those 480i/p 720i/p 1028i/p thing for PS3? I have no idea what those are. But they kept coming up over and over in many forums. I think it has something to do with the graphic...? But yea, anyway, does this monitor support them?
Thanks in advance, and please help me :(

Form the specs of that model, it has no built in speakers.
Ps3 will work with it, only thing you,ll need to do is connect sound via optical from the PS3 to your receiver.
Has your receiver got optical in?

What is the "optical in"? Sorry I am very noob at the tech stuffs. My Receiver has an input which I can put normal computer speaker or earphone in. The LCD monitor also has an input like that, but it didnt work with my PS2, because PS2 cnnects sound through through AV cables, but the monitor doesnt have those input for PS2's sound. I don;t know what kind of input or output PS3 has and need, since I dont have one yet.. But is that input the optical in that you mentioned?

your monitor can give your ps3 720P output. But you need a few cables and things to get it working.
You should get HDMI to DVI cable. that will let you directly connect the ps3 to your monitor, and put 720p.
Next, to get the ps3 sounds out of your speakers, you should get a old ps2/ps3 cable that has the yellow, red and white cables connectors, get one of those cables that stickweed posted the CSM2RF6 type ones, and you use those together to connect to your speakers. (just connect the red and white cables, forget the yellow one.
Since in the ps3 you can select your output source. So you set your graphics to hdmi 720p and your audio to "audio cables".

All he needs to do is hook the PS3 in via HDMI, then for audio use the standard AV cord (supplied with PS3, same as PS2) input for audio. He doesnt need to buy anything extra.
Also you will need to change the audio settings somewhere in the PS3 so that it knows to output using the RCA plugs.

So your saying I can use HDMI for graphic, and AV cable for sound, and hook up AV audio cable to my receiver like I did with my ps2?
Then isn't there 2 cables for PS3 then? Is thats possible?choosing different cables for graphic and sound?

Yes thats exactly how it would work. In the PS3 settings menus you can choose exactly where you want your video ad audio to be output from, just like a few people who asked if your receiver had an optical input, basically the same thing.
Its the method people generally use when they have a HDMI>DVI adapter, DVI doesn't have audio so one of the other PS3 outputs are used (optical is preferred).

Optical into the Sony STR-DE 495 from the PS3 would be the recommendation. Unless you mean how would you hook it all up?
