I am interested in putting a modchip in my xbox 360 (not flashing the firmware, doesn't work well for me and my mac mini!) However, I have a couple of questions before I jump in.
The NME 2.0 modchip looks like a good solution for playing backups. Is it?
I currently own a launch 360 (repaired the 3-red lights myself by modifying the heatsink) and it has a Hitatchi drive. The installation diagrams on the Hitatchi looks a little over my skill level. Is it true that most/all of the new arcade 360's come with the BenQ drive? I could definitely install the chip on that or the samsung drive. I have modest experience in installing modchips (psx, ps2, xbox 1, sega saturn..)
If this is the case, I would be willing to sell my current system and purchase a new arcade 360. Is there anything in new systems that prevent the installation of modchips?
My final questions are regarding xbox live and modchips. It seems that the NME 2.0 has the ability to disable the chip. How well does this work? If disabled, can I play my 360 games on xbox live without worries?
And, finally, this may be a naive question however, is there anything preventing achievements earned in backup games being added to my gamerscore (being that I will not be connected to xbox-live while my modchip is enabled)?
Take your orig.bin from your hitachi drive and place it in the 2x,5x,8x, or 12x folder in the BenQ iXtreme v1.4.1 firmware pack. Then double click the 'Make iXtreme firmware' command. Once firmtool runs successfully, the firmware it creates ix14.bin (or ix141.bin, not sure if they updated it with the revised pack) is ready to be flashed to your benq. It will have your Hitachi key and version strings and will be good to go.
