I purchased the Wiikey and opened up my Wii console. There is a slight difference between what the installation guide shows and what my motherboard looks like. Anyone have this issue?

Is there a way to make it work?

You should have gone here first

http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php

You can use this to verify what you seem to already know.

If wiikey is no good then you can forget wiiD

Infectus 2, Argon, D2Pro, Wasabi are the only 4 you should consider if your drive is D2C.

My advice - pay someone to do it. If you rushed out and bought a wiikey expecting it to go in without knowing what version your Wii is at then I'm guessing you've done no real reasearch at all and dunno what you are getting in to.

Before everyone tells you you need a different mod, they should remember there are disk drives with cut legs and missing pads that still work with a wiikey.

Nintendo-scene will tell you and estimation, but if you already have your wii open just look at the Panasonic chip.

GC2-DMS
GC2-D2A
GC2-D2B

will work with wiikey

GC2-D2C

will require a newer chip like juniR said. So it just depends on what your definition of "slight difference" is.

One of the solder points that is supposed to connect to the Wiikey falls under the Wiikey and cannot be soldered to the motherboard.

There are supposed to be 3 points across and two down and my motherboard go 3 down and 2 across.

Just tell us what chipset you have - it's easier!

I tried that 4 times and each time after I put my serial number in it tells me to enter the entire serial number in.

It is not recognizing the number.

It's D2C - wiikey won't work.

Look at my previous post telling you your options.
