Yea, I just got an x box 360 and I tried adding a 500 gb external usb maxtor hard drive and the x box doesn't see it under removable usb devices. My USB stick shows up fine its a kingston 4 gb. Do I need to install a driver for it? If so where do you install drivers for the x box?

i dont think any external hdd work because then you wouldnt need to go out and buy microsofts hdd specially made for the 360 which makes sense being micro$oft

I have done a bit of research. You can use USB external HD up to atleast 750 gb it will see..but there is a catch. You can only put music and pictures on it I think.

I figured it out. You have to format the drive as Fat32 and set it as a primary partion. I had a 500gb hard drive. The most you can make the partion is about 196 gb. Let me know if you end up getting one and need help to partion it correctly.

i am 99% certain that you can add vids they just have to be in a .wmv format. i am i know they have added support for xvid/divx but i am not certain as to if they can be read off a external hdd.

You should be able to add a external drive, but it will only play music and photos. My 30GB Ipod works with my box.
