Since the 60GB PS3 has hardware backward compatibility (emotion engine), will it be able to play PS2 backups in the future whereas the 80GB will not?

I don't see why the 60GB wouldn't be able to play them in the future.

No I'm talking about PS2 backups. I have a large amount of PS2 backups and if I mod my 80GB PS3 in the future I am wondering if it will be able to play the backups because it does not have an emotion engine like the 60GB. Basically, is the 60GB better for modding in the future?

honestly... just keep your modded ps2 to play your ps2 backups for the future if you really need to

reg ps2 games already don't look too great when everything else being used (ex. tv.. cables.. ps3 itself is HD) it really makes ps2 not look so great.. maybe im doing something wrong with my ps2 games or ps3 but i would really prefer to play ps2 games on an sdtv or crt rear projection hdtv.. anything newer just exploits pixelation with the ps2 games..

maybe thats just me..

What about the PS2 games that do not work on the 80GB now, I assume the PS2 backups will also not work. Is sony going to eventually update the firmware so that almost all PS2 games work on the 80GB by emulation?

Thats what I did. My PS2 was easy to md, but the PS3 looks a little hard to mod.
