Hello,
I have Wii NTSC with WiiKey on it.
About 5 months ago it got semi-bricked (I just can't access the Settings screen).
I have no idea what games caused it.

Since then I waited for a new firmware to be released, and today I got SMG NTSC (an original copy).

I installed the upgrade for WiiKey 1.9g and then I put the game in, installed the update. And I could play the game alright.

But the Wii is still semi-bricked! I can't access the settings screen.

I tried reinstalling the 1.9g again just in case, but I have no idea what to do now.

What's wrong? Why is it still bricking on me?
I read the whole long post (and the SSBB one) and couldn't figure out the problem.

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

A thought: Is it maybe because I updated the WiiKey to 1.9g BEFORE installing the update from the SMG CD?

If so, is there a solution to the problem? :-(

SMG is a 3.1 update. The game you used to brick your wii is a 3.1 update too. You have to wait for a game that comes with the 3.2 update(As of now it looks like it might be Mario Kart)

Your semi-bricked wii has nothing to do with your wiikey. The 1.9g wiikey update was just to bypass the new protection Nintendo put in SMG.

It's kinda impossible I bricked my Wii with a 3.1 game... because I had no new games for ages, I just now got the SMG, Metroid Prime and SSBB. So I couldn't brick it with a 3.1 game...

No, is needs to be higher. I am semi-bricked too. Not worry as soon as there is a game with the update, someone will post it.

SMG - is 3.0 actually - SSBB is 3.1

SSBB backup NTSC USA should fix your brick (assuming your console is USA) - the original won't work at this time.

You might want to double check that. SMG is a 3.1 that is why when it first came out with the new protection, and we got the 1.9g wiikey update. We made a big deal about using SMG from your own region.

SSBB is also 3.1 but it is a minor update to play DL games.

Oops - I was talking Japanese if you get me LOL - I was in & out making summat to eat and by the time I popped in the reply I'd somehow got it into my head the guy was bricked with SMG JAP... But thankfully the meal was fine hehe

If it was a JAP game then SSBB should still fix it afaik - If it was PAL then I think I'm right (who knows now eh) that SSBB won't fix it? :S

Yeah tx - I did actually make sure I updated to 3.1E before playing the USA release of SMG because I knew it carried 3.1U and might brick me "back then". But in any case it's the guy who needed the info more than me and it's essential that if anybody spots summat that's misleading they pipe up and I'm happy my advice is corrected ;)

So to summarize everything, just wait for SSBB and hope for good?

My Wii is US one (NTSC) and it got bricked properly by Mario Strikers or something similar, so I don't understand why SMG didn't help... :-( I thought it's much newer (3.0 VS. 2.2?).

I spent like 5 hours today reading posts here... Couldn't solve it :-(

I am happy for you. I guess SSBB was enough. :)
