I have the infamous matshita DVD-RAM LF-D311 DVD-RAM/R drive. My computer is a Gateway 700XL/Windows XP. I have never been able to get the bloody LF-D311 to burn, or recognize DVD-R disks.
I have Roxio DVD Burning version 9. The good folks over at Gateway, are oblivious as to what they sold me, even more so as to what a matshita DVD-RAM LF-D311 is, and how it works.
Needless to say, the company I purchased the computer from are unable to provide any support, or help.
Does anyone know how I can make this drive work using Roxio DVD Burning version 9?
Might not be the answer you?re looking for but go and buy a new one only cost £15 these days and that?s for a high spec Samsung better things in life to be getting on with then fcking about with a cheap no Billy no name peace of shit :)
Try going into device manager/cdrom/dvdrw drives. Locate that drive and uninstall drivers for it. Reboot and see what happens. Sometimes they can get lost,making it look like it's a cd-rw drive only.
If it won't recognize a blank disc,then you may wanna try updating the firmware.Most -4x media is extinct,but if you get a hold of some,they may work. 8x media is disappearing. The 16x media is the majority right now,and old drives aren't programmed to handle them.
Faster media + Lack of firmware updates = obsolete drives.

If it'll play dvds,you may be able to use it as the ripping drive and invest $40 max for a new Liteon/Samsung/Pioneer/NEC burner from newegg.com.
Roxio: Not highly recommended. She like's to take over PC's.Roxio also won't pull of encryption. There's other,better freeware out there to rip/encode/and burn dvds. Dvd shrink/ImgBurn/Dvd decrypter/Dvdfab-all freeware and better than most of the costly dvd programs. Some of those drives I listed that newegg carries,comes with a nero oem disc.
