Not entirerly. You can get a wiiclip with a chip pre-soldered to it so you wont have to solder anything. Or theres any number of people who you can send your wii to for modding. But if you cant solder DEFINATLY do not try modding yourself.

Oh sweet.

Any places you'd recommend for buying a Wasabi presoldered (I heard Wasabi was the best D2C key)?

Or somewhere to send it (that's trustworthy) to get a Wasabi installed

Infectus 2 or Argon are the best Wii chips - not wasabi - and there's also the D2Pro which is seen by some as a better D2C option than wasabi as well.

Depends where you are but personally I dunno. Google the chips and see who their official resellers are and then maybe go for one that you like the look of ;)

Alright. So should I get an Argon or a Wasabi?

They both can be put on Wiiclips

Of the 2 I'd go for Argon and get the programmer as well.

Hmm, I can't really find any places in the USA to buy it. I found one in Australia but they don't sell the required Wiiclip or the programmer. :(

I don't think you'll find a place in the US - try this one:

They're in Canada

Alright, thanks.

I'm still confused on whether to get an Argon or a Wasabi.

Will the Wasabi really become outdated?

hork buy what chip you want m8 - Argon and Infectus 2 are better chips because they are generally much more flexible and can be completely re-programmed properly. You can go look at the official site and they'll give you the comparison BUT if you don't think the differences matter to you personally then go with Wasabi. I can't say it'll not do you for what you want either - I can only say where I'd put my money personally.

I just want to be future proof and have a company that'll update their product to keep up with compatibility and stuff

FYI, I have successfully and quickly moded my Wii with 'Infectus 2' using Wii-CLIP for Argon. Got both from http://modchip.ca. Yes, it does not fit the clip, but soldering points are same (except +5V and D0 point that have to be soldered) and it was a very easy install (I'm not a professional solderer and used a standard 15W iron from radioshack). I don't have any pics, but infectus 2 fits OK into the space, just make sure you put some carton (as carton for Wii-clip does not fully cover it) between the chip and metal surface. Firmware upgrade for Infectus 2 works like a charm. Make sure you download 1.4 Wiiktus firmware as it's the latest stable one: http://www.infectus.biz/downloads/infectus_wiiktus1.4.dat

Why aren't there more threads like this stickied on the Wii message board? Xbox, Xbox 360 and PSP have these. Seems a bit unfair. We should have atleast one for people looking for Wii mod info.

@ramosfet
All the 'stickied' threads can be found in this sticky for the Wii forum
