I need to replace my xbox 360 dvd drive because it is slipping.
I have a hitcahi right now and I tend to replace it with another hitcahi. Will that require flashing? I'm not looking to play back up's either. Please help me.

ya, you will have to flash the new dvd drive with the old drives firmware so it will work.

yea the box and the drive have a "key" and they have to match so essentially you need to get the "key" form your old drive and put it on your new drive in order to get it to work.

What if your old dvd drive is completely shot? How do you go about flashing a new dvd drive when you can't get key off the original drive?

well if the old drive is completely shot and you cant dump the FW off of it and you dont have it somewhere else (already modded it so you have the orig.bin for that drive) you are screwed pretty much and cant do anything.

I am so Confused
I really want to learn how to replace my xbox 360 dvd drive but it sounds quite complicated.

Flash.....Key??????

I see xbox 360 replacement dvd drives online

1st of all is flashing the dvd drive that green circuit board that you have to switch from old drive to new drive?

2nd where is the key? Where do I get the Key from?
is the key supposed to be in the dvd drive circuit Board?

someone please help me understand.

The key is normally stored in the drive controller chip, but it is different for the new Lite-On drives. The only option you have to recover your orig.bin file if the board is shot is with a programmer and a 14mm TSOP32 adapter. You will need to desolder the TSOP chip and read the firmware that way if the TSOP chip is still good.Whether you are using hacked firmware or original firmware the key for your drive should be located on it.The key has to match your main motherboard in order for it to work.

Yeah it should but if you have a Hitachi drive replace it with a Hitachi.Try to keep the drive the same if you plan on swapping just the board.

Yeah it will work bro, just replace your m25 board with a new m25 drive and you should be in business.I would also make sure it is a m25 before getting a new drive. If you can do it open up your console and check to make sure before you change it out.If you can do the extra step I would advise it.

This is what I would do alright if you have an ms28 drive and want to swap it out with a ms25 drive. Then dump the firmware from the ms25 and inject the key from the ms28 into it,then flash it back by doing a restore. In order to do a restore though you need the orig.bin file.If you have a ms28 and want to swap the board with a ms25 then it should work, because there is really nothing different between them.

Hi, sorry if I sound like a moron, but if I simply replace my faulty drive with the new one I`ve ordered I dont have to flash it? its an M25 I know that much. And if I have to flash it I take the key off the broken one and flash into the new one? which program do I need I can only find tutorials to mess with the drive so you can copy games (I think).

This is a proven and effective way. I have dona it a couple times and has always worked. Plus its easy for beginners. Requires very minimal soldering skills.

You need to make sure your buying the right drive. No you do not have to flash it. And you must desolder the 8 wires pull the pcb out and swap it. Then resolder the wires. You must keep a close eye on the order of the wires please mark them as it is very easy to mix them up. It should be if I remember correctly (black,Red,white, white, red, black, white white from left to right.)

First off, you are replying to something that is from March '08.

Second, since it's an Hitachi drive, there are NO wires to desolder/solder. I believe it's the BenQ that you are thinking of.

Please forgive my ignorance; the more read this post, the more confused I get. My drive is also shot. Can I just replace the Hitachi version 79F with a Hitachi version 79F and start playing?
