Here's the situation.

I had a wiikey in my console, but it wouldn't update for some reason. I thought it was a clone but when it was removed, I looked up some sites and it seemed like an original.

After it's removal it was replaced with a D2c pro (Even though i have a D2b chipset), at the time I didn't know about the new chip and the guy gave us a guarantee that it'd work. Now SOMEHOW Smash Brawl( I was in a rush and semi-bricked my wii) worked but after two days no back up disk would boot up and the question mark thing comes.

I opened the wii, the optical drive chip, where it says D2b and where the chip is directly linked with looked a little melted on the top.

So now, I have a semi-bricked D2b wii, with a D2c pro and a slightly melted optical drive chip. The opening screen comes just fine but none of my backups will load up. Orignals work fine.

If your chipset is D2B then there's no way he should have put a D2CPro chip in. If the guy gave you a guarantee then you should talk to him BUT if he's done that I can't see him being a bona fide pro and his guarantee is proly worthless.

BTW - your post title should be edited to something like...

"Help - D2CPro fitted to D2B Wii" because vague titles are against the rules.

Sorry for being such a nuisance, but how do you change the topic name?

At the bottom of the thread in the right corner it says "edit thread title".

But as said above whether if it is a D2CPro or D2Pro Modchip neither are compatible with D2B chipset. You need to contact the installer and let him know he installed the wrong Modchip in your Wii.

But then how do you explain that the backups worked for a few days?

The D2CPro and D2Pro are not compatible with D2B chipsets.

So you either....

1) Have another modchip other then D2CPro or D2Pro.

2) Have a D2C chipset not D2B.

I confirmed it's a D2b, and the chip IS D2Cpro.

I went back to the guy for repairs, he's now saying that the disk isn't spinning AT ALL and that I messed up the lens. I think i've been seriously screwed over, I think my optical drive chip was damaged. Is there a chance that i'm right? The chip was a little melted when i saw it. Does the disk spinning and/or lens get affected by damage to that chip?

If it's defo a D2B and the chip is a D2Cpro the guy is a complete p***k. I think HE has broken your Wii tbh. Sorry but that's it. If you can do summat about getting him to fix it or compensate you then fine but going by what he has done here I think you are dealing with an absolute cowboy (UK term for somebody who does a job they aren't qualified to do with no insurance or real guarantees).

The Moder defiantly made the mistake. D2CPro is only for D2C drives. It will be kind of hard to get anything done about it since it is against the law to have modchips installed in most countries. This being the case taking him to court would more then likely not be a possibility.

Just hope he stands by his work and tell him that he installed the wrong Modchip and you did nothing to cause an issue with the Wii drive or optical drive. He made the mistake by placing a D2CKey Modchip on a D2B chipset.

All you can do is uninstall the Modchip from the drive board and clean it up then reinstall the drive to Wii and see if originals will then run. If so take it to another moder or ask the above moder to place a correct D2B Modchip in it.

If the drive doesn't work then try sending it to a moder that possibly could fix it or buy a new drive all together. Modchip Central offers replacement drives with Modchips already installed onto the drive. Or buy a new replacement drive and Modchip separate and find a different moder to install the Modchip.

Well the chip has D2B on it and the D2CPro specifically says for D2C. It is definitely his fault. It's something that any modder who is charging for fitting should know. I'm really annoyed for you m8. Hope you get sorted soon and are able to get on with enjoying playing games again.

Thats about right. It is Around $120 for the drive $55 for Modchip and $65 for D2C Modchip install.

It is $20 cheaper if you get a D2B drive with wasabi at Modchip Central (it is out of stock).

There might not be an issue with the drive the issue could be using the wrong modchip on the wrong drive. Once you uninstall the Modchip the drive could perform normally. I would uninstall the D2CKey and clean up the board first and see if the drive works before buying a new drive.
