I have a Wii with a Wiikey at 3.1J, and I want to play this DVD5 SSBB on it. My Wii and Wiikey are both Japanese, so playing the Japanese game should have little problems, right? Do I need to get the 1.9J update by burning a disc and everything, and what is a GC pad? Thanks.

*sigh*
This has all been covered many times before. If your wii and game disk are the same region you'll have no problems playing backups or origional disks and you'll have no worry of bricking the console either. The origional disk of SSBB is a speical case in that, until recently, the wiikey could not read the origional disk but it could read both DVD5 and DVD9 backup copies of it just fine. That has now been fixed with the 1.9s (there is no 1.9j) wiikey firmware, which is installed to the wiikey by burning it to a disk. And while there are tricks to install it without one since it is running in gamecube mode the easiest way to install it is using a gamecube control pad, often shortened to GC pad.

In the future please use the search button or read at least the first page of the SSBB sticky.

Very sorry, I didn't see a SSBB thread, only warnings regarding the link. And I'm very paranoid regarding this matter. So in short, I can play the DVD5 as I am right now, no need to do anything except burn it, right?

Yes, it should work. And before you try to run the game and see it talking about a wii firmware update know that since you have a J console and a J game you can let it run the update without any worries.

I popped it in just as the game ISO was alone, and now it's taking a long time to update. Should I be worried of a brick because I didn't upgrade to 1.9s or didn't use RegionFrii?

When I popped it in, there was a plain disc thing, and a update thing ran. It ran for around 20 minutes in counting, and I stopped it just now. What just happened?

Hm, it shouldnt have taken nearly that long. Maybe it froze up. It should work though, keep trying.

Shouldn't it have at least shown some sign of it being a Wii disc or the Dairantou Smash Bros. X logo? I don't think RegionFrii or 1.9s was required to play it, so I did nothing, but I guess those 2 are irrelevant for my situation, right?

It dosent show the disk icon if theres an update pending.

Regionfrii is only for when the game is from a different region than the wii. And 1.9s is only for the origional SSBB game disks.

I used Img Burn, so that might be it. I'll try again now.

Error 001 is a diskcheck error. If your wiikey is only updated to 1.9b (or earlier) and not 1.9g then the game will detect it and not play. Update the wiikey to 1.9g or 1.9s and it will play.

Also, I dont know if this happens with 1.9s but every so often with 1.9g it still fails the check and needs to be restarted. But in weeks of playing super mario galaxy or brawl I only had the problem twice.

Ok, you really need to learn to search for answers. All this has been covered before. This is the last one I answer for you.

I never saw it but I've heard that a green screen with text was a disk read error. You're using the DVD5 version so any cutscenes besides the opening one will cause this error. Also could have been caused by a bad burn, try reburning at 4x.

Err.. sorry. I tried searching other sites for answers to no results, and I get some site error when using the search feature at Afterdawn. I guess I'll just try reburning it.
