can you take a blu ray drive from one ps3 and and put it into another? does it work with different types of ps3? would a 60 or 80 gb version still be backwords compatable if blu ray from a 40 gb was used?

Not sure about the first part of your question but I can answer the second part; swapping bluray drives should have no effect on the BWC because how they are run is independent from the BR drive.
