Hi,

I'm new to this site. I will be buying a 360 soon. I have an original Xbox that I modded with a chip. I'd like to do the same to the 360 when I get it. But, with the first xbox having it modded seemed to make playing on Live risky business. That wasn't an issue then because Live didn't appeal to me then. But it does now.

So I was thinking that if I were to get a 360... I should soft mod it? I could get 2 hard drives. Soft mod one for back ups and use the other for playing online. I think that if this is possible, it would be the best solution. Partly because if I hard modded it and it later got Rrod than I would no longer be covered under warranty for opening the case.

I admit that I have not read a ton about 360 mods. I am not sure if this would work or if it is really necessary. If there are any other ways that can achieve this please let me know, or if there are any easier ways/drawbacks to modding.

Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for your time.

either way it voids your warrenty when u open the 360 to flash the dvd drive. The hard drive has nothing to do with the mod. There is no for sure way to keep from geting banned from live! The best you can do is only have the ethernet cable pluged in when you have a original game in the system. For now that seems to work, atleast for me. As for your question (are there any easier ways/drawbacks to modding?) there are no easier ways sorry. Only drawbacks I know of is you could possibly get banned from live and your warrenty is voided.

So you have to open the 360 to soft mod/hack it? I don't want to install a chip this time. I was thinking that with a soft mod you only had to install something on the hdd. I guess not :( I'll have to re think this to see if it is worth it.

ok here is the deal:
1. You can open the 360 and keep the warranty sticker in tact if you do it correctly.
2. Flashing or chipped is your choice, flashin is easier. There is no such thing as a "softmod" for the 360, that was on the original Xbox. You do not mod the hard drive you have to flash the DVD drive. And the only thing this will allow you to do is play back up discs. So do not expect to mod your system and get what you had with your original Xbox because right now none of that is possible.
3. Either one is bound to get you banned eventually anyway so just hope that you get your whole XBL subscription in before it happens.
4.Your best solution is to have one modded for offline play and one stock for online. This of course means that you have to buy the games you play online but unless you are one of those people who HAS to play every game online it is the best solution. I know this is expensive but it is the ONLY 100% safe way to avoid getting banned.

I am the type to find 1-2 games i like online and play those and not worry about playing them all online. I do not mind just playing most games offline by myself or with a friend at the house.

Thanks for the info steimy. That's answered a few of my questions. My only other one is, since there is no surefire way of preventing being banned, is playing an original game with a flashed drive safer than a backup on a flash drive, even if its a good Kreon rip.

I'm getting a flashed 360 in the next few weeks and am wondering should I wing it with the backups online for as long as I can or will I get a longer run without being banned by just playing one or two original games online.

Its up to you. Like it was said before. It's only a matter of time before MS is able to detect the stealth rips. When on live with a backup make sure it's 100% stealth.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I am the same way, I don't play many games online. Back ups would only be used for offline games.

A question about flashing. Is it detectable online even if you are not using a back up?

^^^
That's the one other thing I wouldn't mind finding out either. Can microsoft detect modified firmware if you don't use a backup online?

No one can answer what MS can and can not detect. But if plenty of people have already been banned it is possible. Most people say that playing bad back ups online was the cause of most of the bans, but there is no real proof because i got banned playing a completely stealth back up online.
