why can't i burn my dvd's anymore

Hi there, has anyone have this same problem, about 3 months ago i got an up-date from Microsoft, & now i can't copy dvd to dvd, why is this, & has anyone out there got any answers,

p.s. steady now I'm new here.
PPS i have a dvd of my mums wedding, which i wanted to copy, sadly my mum passed away last year, & thats why i wanted to copy the dvd, I was going to send it to the states for here 3 sisters to watch it.

Not enough info, do you mean you can't rip, you can't burn, you are getting error messages? What exactly happens???

Nero and Roxio can often conflict and fight each other. I'd start by uninstalling Roxio, run a registry cleaner, then try again.
EDIT: And Arniebear is right, a little more info may prove to be helpful.

Best is to back up dvd to HDD, then burn to a blank dvd. Not disc to disc.
Solution
1) back up dvd ( mum's) with dvd shrink to HDD and out put in ISO
2) burn ISO file with Imgburn, free from
www.imgburn.com

If "mum's" video is already the correct size you don't need Shrink just imgburn will do it.

thanks every one for answering my call of help,
what happens is that i can copy dvd's, but for some odd reason it won't finalize, & this is causing all the problems, as you know , they won't play back on anything.

That sounds like a compatability issue. Lots of things can do this.
Play the so-called non playable backups,on your pc. Make sure your pc can play those backups.
You used to backup ok 3 months ago. You know that windows updated. Anything else change on your pc?
Did you change anything with the blank media you used? That's the usual culprit.
Anything like the following:
1)Switched to a different brand name.Example Used Maxell,but now on Memorex-but using the same format.
2)Switched formats-Went from dash to plus,plus to dash.Example: Went from -16x maxells to +16x maxell.
3)Switched to a different spindle/pack of the same stuff. Examples: Switched from 50 pk -8x memorex to 50 pk -16x memorex. Switched from 25 pack of Maxell -8x to another 25 pk of Maxell -8x.
MID codes will change between format changes. They can also change when switching to different speed of blank media. What gets most issues is when they switched to another spindle of the same stuff. Most brand names outsource their media. Take +16x memorex for a prime example. I burned the heck out of the 100 pks of +16x ricohjpn's and they are some very good discs. Next spindle of +16x Memorex,in the 100 pk,were made by Moser Bauer (MBI) and is crappier than the ricohs. 2 MID codes on the exact same brand,format,and speed rate.There may be a couple more manufacturers for +16x memorex. This happens to Maxell,TDK,Philips,Staple's,HP,etc.This is a good exaple to stick with Verbatim or Taiyo yuden.
Compatability issues are usually caused by a certain format. Even certain mid coded media can give picky drives fits.You may have switched to the opposite format.
Use neroinfotool and it'll answer the following questions:
What is the brand name,model#,and current firmware version of your dvd-rw drive?
Slap one of your older backups in and find the MID code for it.
Slap in one of your latest backups and find the MID code. I'm curious to see if there's an MID code change between them.
If it's a 1:1 copy and no encryption: Imgburn is an awesome program.A lot safer than On the Fly,and only takes a couple minutes extra. It also gives you another burn engine to try to rule out a nero issue.

Hi there , thank you so much for all this information, what i have done this time is to buy 16x dvd+ from tuff-disc, & before i used 8x dvd+ from tuff-disc, so this could be the problem,
I tried to copy a bowie dvd last night, it did copy & burn, but it does not finalize the disc, so it ends up in the bin.
Do you think i should go back to 8x dvd's using verbatim,
I think i have also updated my firmware, on my pioneer dvd rw drive,would this cause any problems.

Verbatim are top shelf media. You'll do well to use those.

Keeping your burner's firmware updated should not cause any problems. It should, in fact, help in several aspects.

Hi Guy's great news, my good wife bought Verbatim 16x dvd-r disc for me, only ten to start with, downloaded clone dvd & hey presto, it f****** burnt,now i just need to know if & when clone dvd expires, can i use dvd shrink, that i have in my p.c, & is the - the new V.H.S. of the dvd format.
Once again, you guy's are tops, if we were in the pub, i would buy you all a drink, & that's coming from a Scotsman, hey stop it no jokes now.

Clone has a short trial. Used to be 21 days,now down to 10-15 days.
Dvd shrink still is pretty good,but can't crack some of the newer encryptions. Anydvd by slysoft is a program that'll help dvd shrink rip those problematic encryptions. Slysoft also has Clonedvd.
Switched for 8x to 16x can definitely affect your backups. Firmware update may have been necessary. Stick with the -16x verbatim.

The dash format/plus format isn't like comparing dvd to vhs. Dash (-),also called Minus,was the 1st recordable dvd format,by sony. Plus format came out after the dash format.This was a format war.Sony wanted too much $ for other manufacturers to use that format. The companies that wouldn't pay that extra money(HP),so they came up with the plus format.
Same deal going on for HD dvd and sony Blu-ray.Blu-ray is the winner in that war.
Plus and dash are 2 of the many different formats.Drives can have a harder time reading a certain format.Drives also favor a certain format,like the Pioneer definitely favors the dash format. My benqs and Plextor (Booktyping dvd-rw drives) favors the plus format..
1) Non booktype capable drives: Dash format is superior.Higher compatability when compared to basic plus format.
2) Booktyping drives: Plus format is by far superior.They yield the highest stand alone player compability.
Most peeps won't notice the compatability issue if they only use a couple drives for either format. Now play those backups in a couple dozen + drives,and you'll see the compatability issue.
