Are there any programs that let you play divx or xvid and mkv files from a DVD?

Seen a program that lets you create a DVD which tricks the ps2 to play the files but I already have the files on DVD.

Yes its SMS 2.5 or SMS 2.6

But you still need a way to launch the SMS player.

Do you have Swap Magic or anything like that to load the SMS, and a usb flash drive, or hdd.

Even if you made a SMS DVD, the PS2 will only recognize the DVD but won't play it.

ive got a fat ps2 with a network adaptor and hard drive.
Installed the MC exploit with hdloader, usdadv, and sms, but sms doesnt work, so is it best to add the sms elf to a usb then?

You launched the SMS elf from the mc and it didn't work.
Thats strange, I run 2.5 from the mc and it plays my divx movies from the DVD player great.

If you have a usb flash drive then yes try that and see if it works, or try another version.

Now that you have an exploit, you can use uLaunch to to browse the usb drive to launch it.

K sms player does now load from usb, but when I put my dvd in, it says illegal disc press x to continue. Can you only have one divx file per disk? or do you have to make the dvd a certain way? Also tried to attach a usb hdd, but didnt detect anything, im guessing thats because its formatted with NTFS not FAT. Any ideas?

Ok well thats good you got it too work.

Yes your USB drive needs to be FAT32 to work.

I use DVD-R or DVD+R and have multiple Divx on a DVD

I burn them to DVD using Nero and selecting DATA DVD.
But that is on my PS2 slim V14.

I can't remember if I ever played them on my V7.
I can try later tonight when I have more time.
Otherwise not sure if you have to follow this method.

Ok I tried my disc that I know works on the slim, on my V7 and V5 and I got the same thing as you "illegal disk"

Anyone know how to fix this? Or does it mean that if I want play dvx on my ps2 I have to copy them to dvd and in the tutorial above? Cos really I dont wanna do that since i've already copied things to dvd...

I know it sucks, but I am not sure my lasers are working too well on my FAT PS2's.
So I don't know if thats the reason.

Are your avi's that you have on disk in divx format.

Yeah i am thinking its a hit n miss thing, because I know I have played the disks fine before with SMS, but I tried tonight on my SLIM even and the same ones that worked before now say "illegal Disk"

So very strange.

DVDs arent playing still getting "Illegal Disk" but I can play divx files if I put them on my USB drive. If not are there any other players that will play xvid files?
