Okay so here's the deal,

I got an used xbox 360 and made a new account but i think the xbox has been registered already by the previous owner. It gives me an error when i try the serial. I have the old premium version with no hdmi. I'm scared that it'll kick in one day and i won't be able to RMA it. (it has a read-disk error sometimes). I don't have the receipt either. So what are my options. The warranty seal is still on it. Can i just call up microsoft and tell them i have a rrod to get a replacement then?

well you can call up MS and give them the SN for it and see if they will register it under your name, occasionally they will. if they dont you can keep calling back until you get someone that will, or get the name/address/phone # of the original owner and then they might transfer it over. of you can go to wal-mart and buy a new console and swap the cases over, not recomemded, but some people do this.

thanks for the reply. I will try calling xbox tomorrow. As for the swapping cases, what if the person gets caught. Don't they scan the serial number of the console and check the serial number? Furthermore, won't they know that my xbox 360 doesn't have a hdmi?

well by swapping cases the store bought SN is on the broken 360 so even if they do check it is fine. as for the hdmi part, you just have to hope you get a stupid return person that doesnt know its suppose to have hdmi on it. (go during the night hours if its a 24 hour wal-mart) just have to ensure that you take the warranty sticker off and put it back on so it doesnt looked messed with.

Ah, i misunderstood you when you meant swap the cases of the xbox 360s. I thought you just meant swap the "packaging" of the xbox 360 - Return the old one, take the new one.

Is that possible as well? I mean physically, there's no difference between the two except the hdmi port and the affixed sticker at the back of the xbox.
