Since there is a lot of questions with ripping and burning a backup of ssbb, maybe we should have a sticky dedicated only to that. In game questions can be another one.
So here could be the idea for this thread, everyone who has had SUCCESS ripping and burning, post here your setup info such as modchip, modchip firmware, wii firmware, wii region, backup file used (if any), etc. Then people who have problems with this can look on here to see only the successes, rather than searching 100+ pages to find them randomly scattered.
If the mods leave this thread open, here are my details:
Wii Setup:
USA NTSCWii Authentic WiiKey (not a clone)
Wii Firmware - unknown
DVD chipset - cut pins
Wiikey firmware 1.9g (upgraded from 1.9b)
Wiikey was installed by a local professional installer using wires.
PC System:
AMD Phenom 9500 4GB RAM
Windows XP SP2
2 x 400GB SATA drives
LG 8164B DVD
Sony DRU-830A DL writer
Source DVD is a USA SSBB purchased from TRS
Ripped DL image with friidump .40 using default command line of:
friidump -d e: -a
Approx 7 hr. to dump .iso
Burned DVD-ROM with imgburn 2.4.0.0 using defaults AND setting layer break to 2084960 (both burns worked) 2.4X burn speed
The problem with this is one guy can have success and another can try the same thing and fail. There are NO hard fast ways to succeed in a good burn and all that would happen in this thread would be ppl posting that they tried to do the same and asking if there was something else hey could do - just like the other thread.
Agreed. There are so many variables, but you can see from the threads that there are certain things that will increase your chance of success, and some I believe are just luck and/or superstition.
I ALWAYS run Rawdump (doesn't apply to SSBB) in Safe Mode. For some reason, even with NET Framework 3 it is succeptible to exception errors if there are too many things running around in the background.
Good quality media helps, but isn't always the key. I believe that the quality of the burner is more critical. I chose a Sony burner because of my spotty success with the Taiwanese brands. I have always purchased Sony burners since.
I burned SSBB onto DL layer DVDs that were $.89 each. I have had HORRIBLE luck with GQ single layer DVD but that was all they had for DL the day I needed to have them. They worked just fine. By contrast, the $3.33 FUJI DL failed to burn a good backup.
Just some thoughts. I'm sure that there will be many that disagree.
