article published on 3 April, 2008

DivX, Inc. announced that the latest Blu-ray Disc player from Denon, the high-end audio/video brand owned by D&M Holdings Inc., has been given DivX Certification. This puts the product in a growing list of DivX Certified products. The DVD-3800BDCI will go on sale in the Japan and U.S. markets at the end of this month. I just want them to create one that is affordable and not ridiculously expensive. A price of about $150 would be the most I would spend...until it comes to that i think ill just wait

Actually the Denon DVD-3800BDCI has been available since early March with the earliest user reviews on avsforums dating from that time. The 3800BDCI owners thread is over 40 pages long:

Then you can forget about the Denon. It's a high end brand as stated in the article. Their top-of-the-line DVD player (non-BluRay) costs $3800 - and they never sell below MSRP for brand-new items.

If you're looking for a sub-$200 player then you have some waiting to do.

The Denons use the same decoder chip as the DivX-certified Panasonics. Hence, it was easy to get the DivX seal of approval for them too. Another upcoming model that will use the same Panasonic UniPhier decoder chip is the Marantz BD8002.

For those looking for sub-$200 players, I think your best bets would be the upcoming Sylvania NB500SL9 or the Daewoo DBP-1000. They could be released at >$200 price points but with discounts and holiday pricing they could get below $200.

Denon is a great brand, Onkyo is a step up but either way, NO DVD player is worth a grand and NO BLU-RAY player is worth a grand, Divx Certified or not.

BTW.............can anyone help me with what the practical implementation is of "Divx Certifications" please? I only know that Divx coding and compression was used in Playstation games as the movie part or interlude.

If they are going to add Divx why not VHS and go real HiFi. I don't quite understand a true high-end HiFi person giving two craps about Divx infact I know they don't so I don't see that as a selling point with high-end gear.

As to their price all high-end gear is way out of line as far as pricing if your a smart HiFi'r you go middle of the road where bang for the buck still enters in. The high-end gear is spec wise much better but how much of that can you really hear and when the price goes from a couple of thousand too a couple of ten thousands and more, it's a no-brainer don't waste your money.

Last I checked Onkyo wasn't better then Denon but that is a different argument.

Denon, Yanaha, Sunfire, Crown and so on is only middle of the road gear most people don't even know what true high-end MFG's are.

Even I had the money to piss away on one of the couple thousand dollar ones I still wouldn't that's just friggin insane that they can get that much for it. I know you pay for quality but that's ridiculous. It can only get so good then your just payin for the name. Some high end manufacturers will only sell to the richies and its gotta be a licenced installer that does it like those huge 10 inch screen remotes you only see on TV. You won't find nuthin like that at bestbuy lmao.

But Ya your right I didn't think bout the being able to order stuff from em. Here where I live in Allentown PA we donu have the real highend stuff in store Sept for the big screen TVs but that's just cause there all the rave right now. Allentown has got nicknamed little Philly not to many upper class around my way. And I meant towards like California where all the stars are and there pocket books are much deeper there gonna be able to get stuff that we can't.
