New Power brick on older 360?

I have an older 360 and just bought a newer power brick. It does nto fit because of a little black prod in the center where you plug the brick up to the unit. Can I remove that black prod and all be well? I hear you can but just wanted to verify again to be sure.

I do not suggest you do that. The new power brick is 175W whereas the old one is 203W. If you use the wrong one, then you have the risk of fire, frying your xbox 360 or worse, burn down your house. If you put too much wattage through the wires, it'll melt the insulation.

Thank you for the information. considering I am using the 175 one where the other power supply would be 203 I am actually under and should not have to worry about the over power thing. What do you think? Ok sinceI am using the newer brick?

Actually, you are over. The old xbox 360 draws a power of 203W. The newer bricks (for the falcons) are rated 175W. That is why you shouldn't use it.

how about you take your 175 back to where ever you bought it and get the 203 that you need. unless you feel like taking the chance and burning down your house or making your 360 into a 400 paper weight.

HAHAHAHA not to be mean but this reminds me of:
Take a lesson from this, don't mess around with power adapters. In this case it's under powering so it's fine, but it could have been the other way around and your house would be gone.

Well difference is mine worked still afterwards. I used it for a day to watch movies. Not pushing it too much with games. It worked fine. I knew I was chancing it.I have the right power now so all is good. I'm not exactly a retard like the video card guy but yeah I know its still not smart forcing something to work with something it is not intended for.

How is the setup workin for ya now man?
I did the same thing yesterday, the power brick runs very warm but it's not any hotter than the brick on my 6.1 surround sound.
I make sure not to leave the 360 on unattended. It goes completely cool when the system is off.
GTA 4 is one of the most taxing games out there, and it hasn't melted yet after many hours of play! (gta 4 red-ring-o-death'd my friend's 360)

You're using a 175 watt ps to power a 203 watt 360?
pfft.... As easy as it is to get the right ps, why would you purposly try to match hardware which is not meant to go together. Don't you think if MS believed the two would work togethet, then they wouldn't have bothered changing the plug design?
When that console quits working, who are you going to blame? MS for a crappy console design?

I bought it used for 250$ and the guy hasn't returned my calls about the mismatched power supply.
I heard a new brick is like 70$ :o
Anyways it is working fine.

Ahhh... I see. Well that sucks.
Myself, I'd pick up the right ps off eBay, then put the other on for sale after I got the right one.
I'm sure the ps is working for you, but I'd imagine it's putting a strain on the system. Remember, just because you can't see any damage happening doesn't mean there isn't any.
I'm not ragging on ya.. just trying to help.
