Xionra - That's a modchip or drive problem if it reads nothing. You need to get it checked over properly.
evolmindz - the very first post in this thread gives details of how to run PAL MK on USA NTSC and plenty of ppl are doing it.

If you didn't fit it yourself then I'd doubt you'd know what to look for. Soldered connections can be tested using a multimeter and can sometimes be made good if they are loose. Also if it's the chip that's gone and the drive is ok the only real way to know is to remove the chip.

Hi I had my sons wii chipped about 6 months ago and he has just bought Mario Kart , when he puts it in it says he needs to update the software. It then says if the console has been modded then it may disable it.
Is this just a frightner or could it brick it.?
I have read through threads on here , but am now quite confused.

You don't give enough details...
If it's a PAL Wii and the game is PAL then update and it'll be fine.
Anything else requires some addjustment and preparation i.e. if you have a JAP or USA Wii with PAL MK for example. - No it's not a "frightner" btw - you should be careful and never take game updates from regions other than your console if you don't know what you're doing cos you can brick your Wii. In region is ok.

Its a pal Wii and the game is pal too.
I asked the guy who chipped it and he didn't know.
So it is ok for me to update it on the wii itself either through the game or on the console through the net ?

Whenever possible update on the net - that's a general rule.
Games can have updates outside of the online update - i.e. for the game itself and they can be taken if the game is in region. Yours is.
You can do either in this case but maybe, go for online first and then the game, by way of starting good practice. It won't hurt at all. You might update online and then a game will still ask you to update when you put it in. That's normal.
You should have no problems with your MK whatever you do.

Modchip and firmware version?

- Firstly, you will not be able to use the Mario Kart channel. If you try to open it, it will give an error.
- The game will ask for an update. However, if you just use Brickblocker then you won't have to worry about updating and will still be able to play.
- The game is a DVD5 (don't have to worry about DL stuff).
- Game saves are not transferable to an SD card.
- Apparently, US players have been able to play online with UK players. I haven't tried this personally, but from what I've read it seems to work.
i have a japanese wii with 3.2j but when i try mario kart it still tries to update, but the update is different to a normal one. it doesnt show the game on the screen in the little winder where it usually shows the game (before you click it to select play game) it shows ????? and when clicked it tries to update. Because i have 3.2j already what will the update do?? try to change it 3.2pal or something? is it safe to update or not?? ive tried brickblocker but when i do that it shows the game in the little window, but when i click it the screen goes black and my wii locks up. i also does the same thing a few other new games such as destroy all humans and wii aces, the game looks like its gonna work, then clicking it makes the screen blank and wii locks up.
do i need to update?? ive searched and searched and there seems to be a few people with this blank screen problem but not sure whats needed to fix it? please help.

So, is it even necessary to use wiifrii and brickblocker on the PAL game version for play on the NTSC-U wii if using wiikey 1.9s with 'region free' on and 'block updates' on?

Also, my success story is....
NTSC-U wii 3.2U
Wiikey 1.9s - region free, block updates both on
I used the 2.9 gig [Wii]Mario_Kart[PAL][ESPALWII.com].rar
ran brickblocker
Burned memorex @ 4x
Workes fine, playin online from canada with people from everywhere no lag.
I did get a message saying the game was going to default to 50hz unless i changed it in the menu, which wouldn't of worked on my tv. But I just hit A and the game ran normal anyways in 60hz.

Well...Here come my question. I have the pal backup wii game, and my system firmware is up-to-date, 3.1J semi-bricked unfortunately. However, when I tried to use the Wii channel, it worked fine. But the catch is I was asked to install the wii channel on the main menu, which I did. But when I got the wii channel completely installed and I clicked on it, it didn't work. Besides, sometimes, I got 001 error and had to reboot the system. My firmware of wiikey is 1.9g with region override set on. Have any of you experience that?

Jap Wii users only and are trying to play the PAL version of Mario Kart Wii you need to do the following:
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=81870&st=0
Basically if you are on 3.2J Firmware you need to download the dump file for 3.1J_V2 and switch this over on the MK iso using WUM(wii update manager). Perform the update on your wii with with the updated iso as you have now changed over the PAL update with a Jap one so its safe to update.
My wii is JAP with 3.2J --> Installed 3.1J_V2 after applying the update as described in the link provided. Mario Kart is now working.
Prior to this MK was showing up in the wii channel but would then go to a black screen upon load.

I dont understand Jap owners are trying to use the PAL ver?
I mean if you have the access to the usual places where the PAL ISO is then you will most likey be able to get the NTSC-J ver.
Just use your own region!
