DVD+R for PS2

Does any one know if any PS2 versions can play DVD+R? I have a V1 and don't want to go through the trouble of MODing the unit if there is no hope of playing the discs.

I am not looking to play movies on DVD+R just backups of games I own.

Also, if you have done this what is the easiest way to backup a PS2 DVD? Can Nero be used with the source in a DVD-ROM drive and a CD+R in my HP200i?

actually it is V4 and above.
If your burner can "booktype" a disc to DVD-Rom i suggest you do that.
I personally have had much better luck with 8X DVD-R

movies i found work well on DVD+R, but games have been glitchy for me as my burner can not booktype them as DVD-Rom.
the DVD-R work every time.

my ps2 plays 16x dvd+r/dvd-r burned at 16x flawlessly. i use a magic v mod-chip.

i would NEVER suggest burning at 16X to anyone.
It may work for you, but will not work for most people.
Also you do not get as good of a copy and down the road they may stop working.

i agree, not the best speed for burning for sure, even if you do have 16X discs i would not burn them at a speed above 8X. I always use 8X DVD-R and burn at 4X for best results.

I use CompUSA (and somtime RiData) DVD+R discs burnt at 2.4x, and ever since (about one year), each backup still plays flawlessly. But I don't suggest using cheap media even if I do, but burning at speeds around 2x to 4x is best (mainly because it doesn't wear your laser out much and some games aren't even compatible to work at different speeds).
