LG introduces 22-inch 10,000:1 DFC display

article published on 8 April, 2008

Following last month's launch of a 19-inch 10,000:1 Digital Fine Contrast ratio display, LG has announced the launch of the W2252TQ 22-inch Widescreen monitor with the same contrast ratio. Lol. I like all the LG electronics I have bought but it has to be 1080P for me too so when they have this on 24" then I will consider buying depending on the power consumption.

No it's not, but then, it's not really intended for HD content. (No HDMI input, not even S-Video). It's basically just a PC monitor (no tuner). The response time is awfully good though; at 2ms that beats even some real HD monitors.

The LG website suggests a MSRP of $369.99, but I can get it here in Canada for $299.99 at 'The Source By Circuit City' (the replacement store for the USA's 'Radio Shack'), although I'd have to cough up another $52 for a DVI cable to hook it up to my PC.

All-in-all, it's a good-but-cheap PC monitor.

Oops! Actually, I had the right pricing info, (yeah, even for the cable), but the wrong department store!

I was in fact, looking at "Future Shop's" listing of this monitor, (not The Source's).

If you look at the LG W2252TQ page here...

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddet...710&catid=25074

... you'll see on the bottom right-hand-side of the page, a pic of the PC connection cable, the "Dynex 6.6' Digital Interface Cable DX-DVI2M", for a whopping $51.99!

It's amazing to me, DVDBack23, how retailers can get away with these prices. It's the same with HDMI cables for HD TVs/Monitors.

I bought a 'Belkin' brand HDMI 1.3 (1080P) cable for $24.97 at a local Walmart, and yet you can easily pay $140 for a 'Monster' brand cable of the very same specs. (Both have gold-plated contacts).

I think that's why it's important to keep informed about what's out there, and why sites like this one here, are an excellent front-line defence against consumer rip-offs.

(BTW Andre, thank you for the many news items you bring our way!) :)
