Well I just modded my wii a few days ago and it was working fine. Then today I go to load it up and it will not read any disks at all Backups or Originals.
From what I can tell the drive is messed up because it starts spinning right when you turn it on and it is a really loud spinning like a Xbox 360.
The error on the screen says to remove the disk from the drive and turn off the wii console. Then call customer support.

I know how to fix and mod most stuff but this completely has me boggled.

Bricked = No console access at all. Your issue is with the drive so it's a question of what exactly has happened. Your best bet is to check the modification to see if there's a loose joint or short and try and fix if you see something - test with a multimeter. If you don't have any success, remove the chip and see if the Wii and drive work as they should. If it's still good and you think the chip is ok then maybe try and fit again. If not then the drive is damaged and it's a question of what exactly is wrong. That's as far as you can go but you don't even say what the chip is so if you need further help later on don't leave that bit out eh ;)

Remove the chip and see if you can boot anything. If you can, then good, it just means that you messed up modding it. If you can't, then that means you probably messed up something during the mod process and could have ruined the system. Hopefully you just messed up something in the solder process.

Not true.

If you had a cold solder joint it could have come loose or broken due to vibration.

If you used the wired version this is less likely, but still possible.
