How can i tell which mod chip is in my premodded wii?

Sounds like a dumb question, but here goes...

I bought a 'chipped wii' from a local console hacker last year, who has since dropped off the radar. Since then i have been able to play backups etc no problem, but i have no idea which model / issue of modchip is installed. With certain games now needing to be patched differently according to which modchip is installed, i was wondering if it is possible to ascertain which type of modchip is in my wii, without taking the case apart?? Would running any of the available hacking accessories like, eg datel action replay help?

If anybody had any ideas, please post!!

If you have searched first then you would find that the answer is NO. You can try and put in different chip config. discs and see which one works though...

You can narrow it down a bit using this

If the chipset is GC2-D2B then it might well be a wiikey in which case look in the wiikey thread in this section for firmware & config disks you can try.

If it's GC2-D2C then it will be a D2CKey and no update is necessary.

Anything else like a different chipset or different modchip you can go google about like NDarkness said and try and find stuff for other modchips to test but I'd open it up and have a look by then tbh.

Have ordered a triwing screwdriver off ebay - will have a poke about and try find out.
