Hi, I received a pre-modded wii with a D2pro chip from modchipfitters today and managed to get it to read 2 out of 4 disks. However the two disks that worked worked flawlessly for 3 hours but then one of the games froze. I had to reboot the wii but since it does not read any of the backups. It still reads the wii sports original (although on a couple of occasions it failed to read even the original when inserted right after trying a backup).
Could this problem be due to the fact that I am using cheap Dvd's? I have burnt many games with the exact same dvd's on the xbox 360 and they have allways worked perfectly fine.
I'm guessing it's either that or I have to send the wii back to modchipfitters for them to repair it. Is it worth getting some verbatim dvds to see if it reads them then or is it more than likely that the problem is coming from the chip itself?

One more thing, I did an update when inserting a copied version of mario kart wii, I could then play for ten minutes before it froze and never worked again. Maybe the update caused this?

Right if you look through the SD slot at the front of the Wii you should be able to see the D2Pro.

When you first switch the Wii you should see the chip flash Red, its only once and very brief... does it do this?

Now when you insert a back up you should see the red light glow in to life and stay on, then the blue light should come on and start flickering... does it do this?

If you dont have this happening then the chip is most likely the cause BUT before you start calling the Mod Shop you really have to test it with some better DVD's. get a small pack of verbatim DVD+R and do some tests.
Use Imgburn and try burning at 2.4x or 4x.

That said though I have a new Wii with a D2PRO and its read everything i've used even some uber cheap no brand DVD-R's from my work.
The only time i've had a problem was with a super cheap no brand DVD+R DL but it was a test and I was not surprize its didnt like them.

I just got home and tried loking through the SD card slot at the front but couldn't see any lights at all, I don't think I can see the modchip at all from the SD card slot though.
but seeing as the wii struggles to even play originals (will only play when I turn it off and back on) the problem is from the chip itself.
also the Wii makes a sound like it's trying to read something, then theres like a little squeeky noise and then nothing.

Play originals for a while (couple of hours) to see if that stabilizes. If your happy that they are working as they should then try better media, as you suggested earlier, for your backups. If you still get problems at all then send it back to be checked over.

You may want to open it up and make sure the lights are flashing properly.
Also you might want to invest in a D2Prog and update the D2Pro's firmware with the latest release which fixes the clicking drive issue.

yes, I will se if playing originals for a while helps. I tried using verbatim disks today but still no luck. Im not getting an answer from modchipfitters so I'm kind of tempted to open it up myself and see what the problem is. I did't really want to void the warranty though just to find out that it's the lazer that's gone wrong.

Void the warranty ? with who Nintendo? Thats already happened by fitting the mod chip.
I would not open it untill i've spoken to the chip fitters, you dont want them accusing you of opening the Wii and fiddling with the chip and saying you broke it!

no modchipfitters put their own seal on the wii and give you a 12 month warranty with their modded wii's

It sounds similar to my d2pro issue. I had a local guy modded my wii with d2pro, he tested and told me it was working, but after brining it home, not even one backup is readable except orignals. So I let the guy know, he replaced it with another d2pro and it works now. I believe your d2pro chip installed is defective just like mine.
