After trying various Linux distros on my PS3 and not getting any of them working with wi-fi, I gave it one more go and installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my PS3. But how do I get it to use my wireless router? My PS3 OS uses the router perfectly. Its a Linksys one. I followed the guide on ps3hax, I got the kernal and the other files needed and followed all instructions, but when I restart, I got some error about the kboot.conf, that kept scrolling over and over, and I had to do a complete reinstall because I couldnt even get Kboot to come up so I could type 'old' in and change stuff. The last part of the guide told me to add a line in the kboot saying, linuxwifi='/boot/vmlinux-2.6.23 initrd=/boot/initrd.img-2.6.23 root=UUID= then my UUID that I copied. Then I was to add quiet splash video=ps3fb:mode: then a number, 5 was 1080p, 4 was 1080i, 3 was 720p and 2 was 480P for SD TVs. I put 2 since I have a SDTV.
The problems I have in Linux always seems to be with the damn kboot.conf. Could anyone offer any help? Thanks.
Have you managed to get wireless on YDL 6.0? Also is it public yet? and is it really hard to configure? Ive got used to linux a bit so I know how to use a terminal and basic stuff.
Oh yeah and if I want to install a different linux, do I have to reformat my HDD? I cant remember if I used to format it then install the new linux. Can I just install the Kboot from the install other os option and then insert the live disk and install?
Ah its ok, I got wireless on Ubuntu 7.10. Now I just need to enable flash. When I go to a site that needs flash, it says install missing plugins, I click that and it says no supported plugins available. I've done a system update and tried again but no luck. Can any one help? Thank you.
