OK so i have a old 360 which has a hitachi 79 drive which is flashed.

It has the 3rrod and is past being fixed.

MY question is, if i went out and bought a new arcade 360, with HDMI out, (most likely Benq drives (correct me if im wrong))

Could i replace the benq drive with the hitachi and play my backed up games. I have read something about needing a key or something but cant find the exact answer or how to do it, any help will be appriciated.

Thanks

Dan

if could be done, but that would be kinda dumb as it only takes about 5 minutes to flash the benq drive.

but if you did want to replaced the new drive with your 79, you would have to reflash the 79 with the new consoles dvd-drives firmware, so you might as well flash the new drive itself and not replace it. if your warranty sticker is still good on the 79 console, just send it in to MS.

Nah i cant get warrenty on it.

Yeh it does sound dumb but, isnt it hard to flash the benq's? like i need a certain chipset or something.

It can't be too old if it's got the Hitachi 79 in it. In fact, it should still be under its 1 yr warranty. Did you save your warranty sticker? Not to mention there's a 3 year warranty for rrod.

You can't just swap drives. The Hitachi would have to be spoofed as a Benq to work in a Benq 360. And frankly, you're just doing twice as much work by doing that. Just flash the Benq and leave it in the new 360.

Na i didnt save my sticker, and its had some mods inside.

The new one i will buy i want to keep it nearly as new as poss, so i will keep the sticker and if it does have probs i can just put the benq back in replace sticker and send to Ms.

I have x38 chipset this will not read the benq's?

well you do need the right PCI sata card, but its only like 10 bucks on new-egg. but its really really easy to do, i use the iPrep method, others here use the dosflash method, both are easy and quick.

couldnt really find one on that site, the search feature is kind of weird, but i guess thats normal for Brits, haha, jk. but i found this one from the UK ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XBOX-360-VIA-6421-...1QQcmdZViewItem

basically what you need is a PCI card that has a 6421 chipset and it will work.

You want a sata card which has a via 6421 chipset. It's ok if it's a raid card, just make sure it's not raid-only (meaning raid can be disabled).

Yea, they started using the new heatsink on refurbs awhile back and they eventually showed up in new consoles. It was back around when the Elites were first launched.

all you need to download is the newest version of iPrep, the FW for the benq itself, newest is 1.4.1 and firmware toolbox to ensure that the key it dumped is a 'good' key instead of 77777777777777777777 or fffffffffffffff. if it does do that, and it probably will, just go into the backup folders and check those keys, and they should be good, so cut and paste the 'code' into the 'orig.bin' key and hit the replace key button, then continue with the flashing process.

remember to backup your original firmware and keep it tucked away in a safe place (aka a floppy disc in your pillow)

umm, copy it from the USB stick you are going to use to flash the drive with, and save it numerous places, email it to yourself, put it on a floppy disc, etc. same way you would back up any other file.

Yea.. But how does the original firmware get onto the usb stick, as i understand it you put the hacked firmware on there then boot to dos, flash it with that etc etc.

Doesnt say how to obtain the original firmware off the drive.

cheers

step 1: put USB stick into USB slot
2: open up iPrep
3: load firmware definition (1.4.1)
4: select drive letter from drop down box
5: hit make bootable
6: shut down computer
7: deassemble 360 and hook the dvd drive up to the PCI card
8: turn computer on, boot off the USB stick
9: follow command prompts (it will put the orig.bin on the USB stick after you run the dben 1234567 12345 command.)
10: shut down 360 and computer and restart into windows
11: open up Firmware toolbox and make sure the FW it dumped is a legit one. if so move on, if not do as i said before to copy and paste a legit key in it.
12: restart computer and boot off the USB drive.
13: follow command promts and run the fben 1234567 12345 command to erase/flash the drive with the 'hacked' firmware.
14: shut down 360 and computer
15: put a burnt game in it to make sure it plays.
16: if it plays, put 360 back together
17: if it doesnt play games, see if it will play original games then restart computer off the USB drive, hook 360 back up and run the rben 1234567 12345 command to restore it to original shape. and start over.

Want the only secure way to ensure you don't lose your key. Open your firmware with Toolbox. Write your key down on a small piece of paper and tape it to the top of your dvd drive before you put your 360 back together.

There's my tip for the day... now you owe me a buck ;)
