I have a 360 that I softmodded and this is the whole story of what happened. It got the red ring of death after 2 weeks. Then, I cleaned off the thermal compound and put some arctic silver 5. Then, it worked for a day and then RRoD. Then, I did an x-clamp replacement thing (even though it didnt have an x clamp. By drilling into the case and passing screws through it with 2 nylon washers between the metal casing and the motherboard and another nylon washer between the motherboard and heatsinks then, it worked for another 2 weeks and broke again. Someone told me I should replace the 2 nylon washers with one metal and one nylon. I did that and it worked for about 3 days and then the games started jamming about 40 seconds into the game. Now, I have one nylon washer between the screw and the motherboard and one nylon washer between the heatsinks and the processors. The screws do not go through the metal casing anymore. After all this, it jams after about 10 minutes. The heatsinks are hot so its not the contact, but I think that something is overheating. So, the only thing left for me to try is one of those coolers that they sell at bestbuy or something. What do you think? (game just stops no RRoD
When you got the first rrod, did you check the error code to see if it could have been something other than overheating?
The problem with the x clamp fix is that it's only temperary. For some, it'll work for months. Other for only hours. Yours is probally to the point where it can't be tweaked anymore.
Now, I can turn it on and it works but jams at the dashboard. I got to be able to see one error code once and it was E71 and the bottom right quadrant was blinking red. I checked and on some sites, it says its like some kind of dashboard update error or maybe software on it. I think it might be the flashed firmware on my xbox but, since it keeps jamming, is it safe to plug it back into my computer and flash it? It also says maybe to update to the latest version of the dashboard update thing or to go into the system place and start pushing buttons and then it would go into maintenance mode or something but it jams at the dashboard so I cant do it.
see thats the thing, I dont have a harddrive but now I get another error, E79. I checked and it says it is something with the hard drive or it could also mean that "xam.xex could not be started, i.e. probably a file system corruption" (thats on the website) heres the link to the site I am using http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726
I forgot to mention that sometimes, it get the 3 red lights but then, if I cover the air holes in the back where the fans are for like 10 seconds, it is able to turn on but jam and I keep turning it on and off until I see an error code and I got that one.
