Well that's my question how long does a laser last on a modded Wii? My question kicks in because I have a first gen Wii (I lined up to get one on the very first day) and I want to know if it will be worth it or I will have to change the laser later on?

Thanks

I think it depends on the media you use. If you have really crappy media the laser probably has to work harder and will wear out faster.

But as for what to do when and if it goes there are pre-modded wii drives. Any drive with any chipset will work on any wii, even across different regions. The premodded drive is a little pricy but cheaper than buying a new wii.

Cant you just change the laser by then? I guess they will be available by then and as with the PS2, you can change it for little money.

Nobody can give a definite answer to this because there are no stats. If it goes fix it. Don't swap it if you have no problem - common sense.

ya, but still, I dont think there will be a need to buy the whole drive, changing the lens would be enough if it ever happend. But when it is likely to get screwed up is like asking when will we die. Everyone will die depending of his lifesyle, destiny, etc. :)

Oh yeah - of course there's no need to change the whole drive and if your dead it's too late by then anyway LOL
