hi,
i have a US wii and i am in the uk. i have the latest wiikey update installed. is it save for me to install an update via wifi? i am somehwat confused as i read people are trying not to get the update (from...certain games, update blockers etc
also will the wii automatically update the US update? is that determined by the country option in the settings?

Yeah it should take the USA update from the net. The console will go for the latest version appropriate to it.

so its save to update? no bricking the wii? why are people then so keen on not updating (like with the brawl update?)

in a nutshell

US Wii in the UK is fine to update over the net, it will recognize the correct firmware and download it. updating from NTSC-U (USA) discs is fine as well since the console is on US firmware. DO NOT update from a PAL or NTSC-J (JAP) disc, whether a backup or original, or you run the risk of semi or fully bricking your wii

Good question. If his US wii is set to UK in the country settings will that affect anything? Or would one determine that the firmware is totally irrelevant of all settings on his wii?

The Wii will take the update appropriate to it. It won't take a different firmware just cos you change the country settings - one of the reasons you NEVER hear of Wiis being bricked with online updates.

thx guys..i appreciate it.
i ended up just getting a raw dump of an update..but now i know i can update it via wifi..thats cool.
