I fear I already know the answer to my question, but I feel it necessary to ask anyway. I have a friend with a slim star wars edition psp that tried to mod it. He somehow in the process bricked the psp. He did not save his nand and even if he would have he formated his memory stick afterwards. I used despertar v5 to try to unbrick it and I can get into the start menu of the hack, however I tried to do a nand backup and got bad sectors. I tried to skip this step and hit "X" to load CFW. It would get stuck at Flash 2. I tried and tried with no luck. Finaly I tried the dangerous dump nand, and again it would not do it as it had bad sectors.
My friend and I decided with no choices left to try to use the nand from another star wars edition to write to it (yes I know this is bad but was a last resort). It wrote fine with no issues, but of course it is still bricked. I can load CFW and everything says good to go, but when I turn the psp on black screen and so it is screwed.
Is there anything I can do to try to help my friend?
Sorry for such a long post, but I know it is important to give all the details.
If you can still load Despertar del Cementerio v5 and it actually does something, there is still hope. Try formatting your memory stick and re-installing DdC v5 and then try.
I have done that and it loads all CFW and give okays to everything, but in the end when I turn on the psp it is green light no screen. It would not do anything until I used the nand backup of another psp to write to it. Then it says everything okay, but no screen. I think using another nand messed it up right?
From what I can gather, yes, you are right. Using the NAND from another PSP killed it. Corrupt IDStorage.
But, there is something you can do. Download Dark-AleX's TimeMachine http://www.dark-alex.org/ and you can load a custom firmware off the memory stick. It's better than nothing.
I installed time machine and like you said it works to some degree. Here is the deal it boots no problem in 1.5. Of course it will not boot in 3.90, because it will not load regularly (that was a given), but here is the weird part. When I try to boot into 3.60 it comes up sony entertainment like it is going to work, but then goes to blank grey screen. I guess it will have to remain at 1.50 for now. Do you think the future time machine versions will get past this?
The old emulators only show up if you put them in the game folder, but still get the "This game cannot be started The region code is not correct". I think this psp is lost.
No, the PSP is not lost. This revision of TimeMachine loads IDStorage from NAND, but the next update will load IDStorage from the memory stick. Just sit tight, and cope with what you can get.
