Well, its out!! Went live a couple of hours ago. Really nice program, I think most folk will be impressed!! There are a couple of minor issues though. Do not run any DVD region free software in the background though for the time being, this seems to cause a few bugs. Good news is that Mr Shrink is already on the case and a fix will be due shortly.
The interface is clean and is packed full of nice new features to truly tweek away to your hearts content.
Enjoy!

It burned my disc at 4X after hijacking my Nero. (I think) When it was done the message said "Shrink has finished burning your DVD".
Really like being able to listen to different audio tracks in the preview window too. I can get rid of the directors comments for sure.
Great job, Mr. Shrink
Well I looked at the version history and Shrink 3.1 can burn if you have Nero 6 installed.

Having new problem with DVD Shrink 3.0 b,5. I was doing just great until yesterday when I decided to play yahoo games online while compressing a DVD (Pearl Harbor) and the simple analysis froze at 65% complete. Since that time it has frozen everytime at the same picture frame and about 54% complete. I noticed that a program running in the background, DVD43, became very active on my system tray. Well anyway how do I uninstall previous version and install ver. 3.1? or do I have to uninstall at all. I was using CloneDVD to burn but free 30 day trial is coming up fast. So I will have to learn how to use Nero v5.5 to burn.
Thanks

Hi Perfect,
The new version has a "low priority mode to improve multi-tasking" feature: Edit> Prefrences> Select low priority from preferences tab.
You don't need to remove 3.0b5 but if you want to, just delete it. The new version has an uninstaller.
Nero 5.5 has not been tested with Shrink 3.1 yet so the Shrink burn feature may not work.
Are you getting any error messages when your analysis freezes? I multi-task when using 3.0b5 but would think twice about playing on-line games.

fasfrank,
The first time I got an error it was from DVD43 on my system tray that was running in the background. That was as error saying that an error occurred at some address that I can't remember. Since then the error has consistently said: DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. The error is: failed to read from file. The reason is Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Since then I have determined that my DVDs were at fault since both Pearl Harbor and Pretty Women both froze when viewing on DVD player and TV.
Thanks

DVD Shrink 3.1.1 is now available for download:
http://www.dvdshrink.org http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/
- Disabled overlapped IO in UDF disc reader: this solves problems with "DVD Region Free" software.
- Ensure all overlapped IO in generic file system code is aligned to sector boundaries.
- Added option to enable/disable Nero in preferences.
- Fixed bug where "deep analysis before backup" was forced on, even though no compression required.
- Some modification to Nero initialization parameters, which solves
problems when virtual cd-drive software is installed.
- Set "system default renderer" to the default DirectX video renderer instead of VMR-9.
- Added support for YUVY, YUY2 and YVYU directshow formats.
- Don't eject burned DVD if "shutdown when complete" was selected.
- Fixed crash when opening IC8 generated DVDs. They still cannot be opened however.
- Modified text of "set toolbar buttons" dialog, so people don't
think it is wallpaper.

Why the hell can't I download this version of Shrink properly!!!!????? I tried to download it from this site only to be warned by my download manager that this is infact an HTML download? Then I went to Doom9 site and after downloading was informed by winzip several times that it couldn't open the zip because it was not valid! When trying from anoher site all I get is 'forbidden'! It's also very strange that from the official Shrink site there is not even a direct download button. Someone help please!

Discmania, before you blow a fuse try this link. ;)
www.dvdshrink.info/downloads/dvdshrink312setup.zip
The latest release. :)
P.S: you will have to cut&paste this link in your browser address bar.
The forum seems to add some "media-fastclick" crap to posted links.

ddlooping: Thanks for that link. It has sorted it out and I now have 3.1.2 on my system. Please also see my thread in DVD-R for Ad users - some interesting points.
Leefields: The corruption ocurred at the point of trying to download and not when opening or using the programme. I have never had any problems using DVD Shrink which is why I always recommend it, but it is good to know that any potential bugs have been sorted and other features improved. Thanks anyway.

Open Nero or whatever burning rom you are using and then drag and drop the files from the folder they are in. In Nero you firstly need to highlight 'video' (under new) and then drag the files into the clear pane that opens. Have you read the DVD-R guides?

Am I right in saying that if you disable the Nero option it just doesnt ask you where to burn the DVD? I'm hoping thats the case and that it doesnt back it up so Nero cant read it!!

Anyone know if there is a option to NOT eject the disc after burn if you are using the burn with Nero option?
I know this was fixed if you chose to shut down your computer after the burn is complete but I just don't want it ejecting automatically.
Any thoughts??
Thanks!

Start up Nero. Select Preferences under File Menu. Click on Expert Features. Should be a option there.

Right, I have that option checked in Nero, however I am using the new 'burn with Nero' option in DVD Shrink 3.1.2 and I guess it does not use the same preferences that you set within Nero, just the burning engine?
Thanks though!

It will use the same burning options you have set in Nero but will ignore some like the disc eject. However if you use the close PC after backup option the disc stays in the drive as your PC shuts down. I like this option since after clicking backup with a disc preloaded you can leave it or go out and forget about it. I must say that the results I'm getting with this latest version are unbelievably good at higher compression levels.

Hi Discmania,
I was browsing around the Shrink forums and now I've got version 3.1.3!
I am amazed at the quality, speed and ease of use of this program. There is nothing else that compares.
A winning situation for Ahead, Mr. Shrink and us.
