I purchased a 3600 mah battery from ebay model psp-360. My slim does not like it, if I plug in the psp to ac power then insert the battery it will charge it but will not draw power from the battery. Does anyone know exactly why this happens? Is this something in the bios? Can I reprogram the EEPROM on the battery to look like one of the supported sony models?

no. using a different eeprom can have side effects. are you sure the battery is in place? it will only stay in place if you hold it in, or have the replacement cover.

if i was you, i'd return the battery, and get the official sony extended battery kit. it's what i use on my slim, and has never given me problems.

Yeah I made sure it was making contact. I tested on two different psp slims and it charges but on the battery info screen where it should show how long the battery has it just shows ---. I think it must be something in bios that tells the psp only to use official batteries. That makes me think that dark alex or someone could change something in the custom firmwares that will allow the use of third party batteries. Just a thought.

there's nothing in the firmware that wouldn't allow third party batteries. it's probably the battery itself. besides, ebay is the last place to buy batteries and memory stick, even if they're dirt cheap.

You have a point there about batteries and memory sticks on ebay. I just find it odd that the battery will charge but not run. I actualy got two of them for twenty dollars and I have not tested the second one at this point. I was considering selling it to a freind who has a fat. I will update this thread with the results of the second battery.

So I tried the second battery and it still does not work. It seems like the psp starts to draw power from the battery but then shuts down. It seems to be the batteries themselves. I have yet to test them with a fat psp.

So after opening the battery and checking the logic board inside it looks like it would not be hard to swap out the logic board from the original slim battery into this one. Has any one tried this? I cant believe no one has documented that these batteries do not work in slims or found a workaround.
