alright, so ive tried all different kinds of methods of connect to xbox live using my laptop, and it still doesnt work. everytime i try to share my internet connection with my xbox it tells me that i cant. it says :
Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled.
A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address
that is required for automatic IP addressing.
ive got a netgear wrg614 router. can anyone help?

okay so it sounds that your getting your internet via wirless, if not correct me. I belive that you may have to bridge your two conncetions together.
If you elaborate more it would help

I remember this when trying to mod my old xbox. This means that both your xbox 360 and lap, are trying to use the same ip adress. not sure how to change that on the 360. Your best bet would be to directly connect ur 360 to your laptop. I could then help you out.

yes. ive got a direct wired connection to my laptop. then the laptop connects to a router wirelessly.

k pwhite23 is right you have to bridge the connections with your xbox. make sure you xbox is connected to your laptop with your ethernet cable that comes with the xbox. and open up manage network connections and select the two connections you want to bridge. right click and press bridge. Done

i tried bridging. number one, it doesnt work. and number 2, i heard it makes you lag so bad a dead person could walk faster. anywho, i think i found the answer. i need a crosover cord. not just a normal straight cord. hopefully that will fix the problem. does anyone know if this is true?

ya sorry haven't been here. Um.. ya a crossover cable is what you need, pick that up at best buy or what not. To bridge your connections, connect to the wireless internet and turn on your xbox with the crossover crap in. Highlight both of them at the same time, right click and there should be an option that says "bridge". This is going off of memory.
and i just wrote this whole thing noticing penner said the same thing.

yeah. damn crossover wire. i asked my teacher if she could make me one and she said sure but i have to do the physical labour. grrr. anyways. so should the crossover wire get rid of all my problems?

Simple problem.. the wireless router is assigning ip's in the 192.168 0-or1.xxx range..
The wired connection between the laptop and the xbox should be set static.. by configuring the laptop wired nic to another subnet... different range underlined above and by giving the 360 a number within that range.. with the new lappy ip as it's default gateway... then tell the laptop to "share this connection" on the wireless network connection.. done ;)

i dont know. When i used to bridge my connection on my orginol xbox i didn't notice any problems at all.
Hopefully it will work.
EDiT: Okay so aparently varnull posted just before me, ya follow thos instructions. Thats what i meant to say all along :)

ok so i sorta understand that, but before all of that i do need a crossover wire correct? because im going to go get it today as well as xbox gold. i want my damn nhl 08 roster updates. anyways, hopefully thatll solve everything. but for varnull, how do i do all that crap. i understand it and everything, but can you tell me how to?

okay plug your cable to laptop..other side to xbox.
go into network connection.
turn ur 360 on.
in network connections you should see both you wirless internet and your 360 thing. if not conncet to a new network.
any way when you have the two keft click and drag to select the two.
right click and hit bridge.

nah i didnt bridge it. i fixed it, i basically shared my internet connectino using ICS, and it gave me this uber gay crap about how my ip is being used, 198.162.0.1, which is my router ip, so i had to change my router ip. and voila.
