A friend of mine has a fat PSP with custom firmware, and so I'm thinking about modding my slim PSP by using his to pandora my battery. But before I go do that Im just wondering if someone could answer some questions for me.

1) Will the custom firmware still support everything that's included in the newer official firmwares?

2) Just how good are the emulators for PSP? I've seen threads about running PSX games on it, so is there a fully functional PSX emulator out there? Or how bout other systems?

3) Is it possible to run downloadeable games from the Playstation Store without needing a PS3 to put em on your PSP?

4) Aside from games, are there any other features of a custom firmware that aren't available from official firmware?

I apologize if these have been answered already, but I haven't had much time to search the forums, and it seems like all threads I do find merely cover how to install custom firmware, and don't say much about it. While Im at it, I suppose I should ask what the most current firmware is?

I'll try to answer your questions...ok
1) as far as I know yes...I've had no problems with anything so far....internet radio is still a feature I can use with CFW, and Not having a slim...I'm almost positive you can still use skype!

2) Emulators are very good, I have the NES, SNES, Genesis, TG-16, Neo Geo, CPS1, CPS2 and they all run flawlessly (Exception of SNES but might be settings on my side, kinda slow and sounds dont seem right)

3) Unknown, I have a purchased copy of "Tekken 2" from the PS Store I copied the EBOOT file to my PC I'll try loading it up, if not I have the game on PS1 so I can make an ISO then EBOOT for my PSP, also yes you no longer need the PS3 to download games on yer PSP but you do need a downloader that sony supplies on their website to do it, I'm not sure if it will work on CFW, I can check though!

4) Dude, all in all, I've been super impressed with CFW, I'm not goin' back I can tell you that much. and I'm sure your friend can vouch for it as well (A Show of replies....who here would go back to Official Sony Firmware? Assuming you have CFW) but to eloborate on your question....you can use "UMD Dumper" a great tool to back up your UMD's and play the ISO's on your PSP, the thing pretty much does the work for you! You also have PSP Filer another great tool to manage files on your PSP without the need for a USB Cable and PC

Hope this helps man!

Thanks for the info!

Ive gone ahead and done it, and have been fiddling around with stuff on it for a while now. Got SNES, NES, GBA, and Genesis emulators workin fine, and yeah, the SNES one aint quite perfect yet, but it aint bad either.
I will have to look into CPS2 and Neo Geo emulators next, wow, Puzzle Fighter and Waku Waku 7, man that'd be sweet.

Downloadable games from PS Store do work, at least my copy of flOw is doing fine. I snagged a cso of Echochrome though that doesnt boot up. Ah well, still learning.

He has leant me his psp but how can I use his to get custom firmware on mine?

h321, you need pandoras battery to load any CFW (CFW = custom firmware) onto your PSP, basically the pandoras battery puts the PSP into "Service Mode" and looks at your memory stick, so essentially it bypasses the normal startup files, so the two things you need are "Pandoras Battery" (or Datel Tool Battery)-(a Pandoras battery is just a normal PSP battery that you physically have to open up and take out a pin to make it a pandoras battery, not something I'd do, I have a Datel tool battery) and the Magic memory stick, (From reading the forums here almost everyone will tell you to use a 2GB or less to make your magic memory stick) go here for Datel tool battery: http://us.codejunkies.com/Products/PSP-M...__EF000536.aspx I watched these videos by Vampyre777 watch all 3 tells you how to make a Magic memory stick! The link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQnbJfH1mrw Good luck and have fun!
