Ok, here we go. I've just gotten my hands on a PSP slim and would like to begin modding it out. I'm completely new to the PSP arena and will probably be needing some retard-proof, step-by-step help.
I would like to get some Playstation 1 game rips running on the PSP as well as some custom software. I have no clue where to start with any of this but have looked for hours on the internet and kept encountering scary sounding things like the "Pandora Battery" and terms such as "Hard Modding". My biggest question in all this is, can I mod my PSP without anything more than that which comes in the original product box?
The PSP Slim is currently running firmware version 3.71 with no attempted modifications to it.
Any and all help and/or redirections to help is much appreciated ^.^
Ok, seeing as I don't have the means to buy a Datel tool battery, I'm going to go with option number two. Now with hard modding, how safe is it and can I reverse the process in the event it doesn't work?
STARRIFT, I just hardmodded a battery yesterday, I was scared as well, but i found a guide on the internet, was very careful, and managed to make it work. Its actually very simple. I was even able to turn it back into a normal battery when i was finished. Although just in case, i would be prepared to buy a new battery if something goes wrong, because if you are like me.... I usually manage to screw something up. But as i said, its relatively simple, the hardest part was cracking the battery open, and that was a cinch. The method i used was where you scrape the circuit with a razor knife, and then you are able to use a graphite pencil i.e. a #2 to re draw the line and it works as a normal battery when done modding. I did'nt like the idea of removing or cutting a pin. Just some food for thought. Best of luck to you.
Just an update, I recently have come into possession of a PSP Fat battery so if I can use that battery without modding any hardware then that is an option too.
Now I'm willing to do the hard mods to my battery but I am also curious as to why I have to. What does the downgrading and/or installing custom firmware process do to and/or require from the PSP battery? And what about the PSP Slim battery makes it incapable of handling this process?
@laturnojd
If the guide you used worked for you, post a link and I'll try it out.
@JayC71
The fact that I have posted asking for help on how to do this in the first place should tell you that I'm interested in learning how to do this my self.
As for the difficulty and time I need to spend reading, that is completely irrelevant to my situation. I have been diagnosed by my psychologist with an inability to learn and retain from unstructured and chaotic information. A lot of the information, guides, and how-tos out there appear to be gibberish to me because of their lack of structure and non step-by-step nature.
@Starrift, Here is a guide. It works for mine. But be careful, when hardmodding the psp. If u pull the wrong pin. Then its game over. Since, have a slim. There is not downgraders. Reguarly pandoras battery was suppose to unbrick psp back to 1.50. But, it also works for downgrading firmware that havent been hacked. Use google and learn more.
