Universal shows off Blu-ray roadmap

article published on 17 April, 2008

Universal has announced its roadmap for Blu-ray releases this summer and has added that its Blu-ray titles will see same day release dates as its standard definition counterparts. The studio, which was once the premier supporter of the now obsolete HD DVD format, announced that 'Doomsday' would be their inaugural Blu-ray title, and that 40 other films would follow in the second half of 2008. ... [ read the full article ]

40 titles by the end of the year is pretty impressive.

For the Heroes fans:

I read somewhere that it could be years before you see Transformers on Blu-ray. But then again, that's just internet rumors.

Here's a link I found.

I'll keep my eye out for more articles...

Or how bout an import on Blu-ray of the og copy?

The packaging doesn't specify whether any region coding was used, but the disc functions just fine in American Blu-ray players. Other than region coding, there are no concerns about PAL or NTSC compatibility in the High Definition realm.

but most of them will/do suck and aimed at 13year old boys with nothing but "special effects" to woo ppl to purchase them.

NOTE to Hollywood and game designers; churning out mass content with special effects/better graphics does NOT make something good contrary to what you may believe, Dr Strangelove FTW

The ONLY title i saw that was worth purchasing is American Gangster all the rest are complete bol*****s imo, or you could just w8 to see if the constant epidemic of sequels iare less than pointless, due to the lack creative thinkers in the Hollywood money train movies being made.

I thought trolling was frowned upon here. I mean since your post didn't really contribute anything at all, except for the fact that you have no taste in movies.

It's a fair comment.

Seriously.. why pay again for movies you already have on normal or hd dvd?

2x blu re-issue films = a nice upscaling dvd player XD

Some people seem to have more money than sense.. When cd came out you didn't see people rushing to replace all their vinyl. And some of us still haven't. What is the point in duplicating the same stuff over and over?

I suppose for people who haven't bought the films previously it is nice that the content will be available for them, and a back catalog of titles is nice, but seriously.. buying the same stuff over and over? That sounds exactly like somebody who has fallen into the mindset they want people to have..

As regards universal.. If I had already bought hd-dvd I wouldn't be buying anything more from them.. They royally shafted the customer by taking bribes. In any other business they would now be dead in the water, and in a world where anti-competition laws were actually enforced they would be facing years of expensive state litigation on behalf of consumers..

Actually Dr. Strangelove is an excellent movie and probably one of the funniest of all time. It would be a definite "must-buy" for me if it ever came out on BluRay as I don't have the DVD.

Unfortunately for nobrainer, Dr Strangelove is distributed by Columbia-Tristar which is owned by Sony Pictures.

Universal just needs to release Scarface, that's all I've ever wanted.

Take it to the limit...L-I-M-I-T-T-T-T-T!

Yea, I didn't care for Transformers either. The only good thing that came outa that movie was Meagan Fox!

@ eatsushi

i am not anti sony as i keep stating, i am anti MPAA, IFPI/RIAA/BPI/Ect. Anti DRM and anti-competitive behaviour!

i am also against the trend of destroying the freedom of speech and the willingness of governments to allow ISP's and the RIAA/MPAA to snoop utilising deep packet inspection (p2p client encryption voids this practice at stopping piracy) and i am also against the destruction of the internet by corporations filtering content to gain larger profit margins(net neutrality).

It just happens that sony are one of the biggest offenders.

i own Dr Strangelove as its a must buy for anyone.

Not even the same so why even bring it up or try to compare. This issue has been beat to death like a dead horse.

Like i have said before on here if you like to live in the caveman(or girl)days then so be it but don't try to pull other people down telling people they don't have any sense because they like to have better quality stuff or upgrade there collection..Because your to cheap or tight to pay for it.

They didn't shaft anyone its called everyday business.Nothing in this world is going to be fair so why even think that way?I don't recall you making a issue on here when Paramount made the deal with HD-DVD? They pulled the plug on Blu-Ray titles that week without a notice. At least Warner,Universal,& Paramount gave a warning to HD-DVD owners.Cmon people with the bashing some people on this board need to really think before they post.

Paramount/Dreamworks have finally made an announcement. Just a few titles but it's a start.

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/P...unch_Plans/1696

Bee Movie
Cloverfield
There Will Be Blood
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Face Off
Next

I don't have any of these on DVD and There Will Be Blood will be a definite buy for me, plus maybe Face Off and Next. I saw There Will Be Blood in our local theater and Daniel Day Lewis was superb and deserving of the Oscar. Cloverfield will be a rental unless the reviews convince me otherwise.

Unfortunately no Megan Fox yet but surely we'll have more titles in the pipeline.

transformers sucks as does Cloverfield its probably the most hyped rubbish thus far from hollywood, it's not even worth the rental, download it then delete it as it's not even worth the dvd-/+ or hard drive space.

There Will Be Blood is the only title worth owning out of that lot.

A lot of people disagree with you - to the tune of $315 Million in US DVD sales and $707 Million worldwide gross:

Lighten up. Sometimes it's OK to watch a movie just to escape from the humdrum of the daily grind.
